Matthew 18:26-27 - The debt of a perfect life toward God had to be paid. Either we would pay it (we can't) or someone would pay it for us.

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman Hi everybody welcome back to Daily Truths. Yesterday we talked about a king that had a servant that owed him 10,000 talents which was like a million dollars back then and remember
[00:00:19] what the the king was going to do or the master was going to do he was going to sell the slave, sell the kids, sell the wife and have the guy sold into slavery right?
[00:00:29] Now we pick up this verse verse 26, Matthew chapter 18. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, have patience with me and I will pay you everything and out of pity for him the master of that servant released him and forgave the debt. Now basically as we
[00:00:51] talked about yesterday, God has told us to live a perfect life. We owe him perfect obedience, perfect love to the commandments of God and we have not kept them. Now we can plead with God
[00:01:04] and say, Oh, have mercy on me, Heavenly Father. Let me make up for it by being moral beadient and being more loyal and being more of a servant and obeying your commandments more
[00:01:14] festidiously and doing all these things to honor you. Let me go to church more. Let me make up for it. Let me somehow pay the debt and God is saying to us basically, you can't. And so
[00:01:27] we plead for mercy from our Heavenly Father knowing indeed that the debt is so deep, the debt is so vast. We can't possibly pay it and so what does God the Father do? Like the Father or
[00:01:41] like the Master, the King, in this text, he canceled the debt. He said, You owe me a million bucks. Nah, don't worry about it. I'm going to let it go. That's what God has done for us for the sake of
[00:01:54] his Son Jesus. This is what we talked about yesterday that because Christ went to the cross and paid the penalty for our wrongs. God completely forgives our debt. He cancels what we owe to him,
[00:02:09] that of a perfect life and allowed his son to go to the cross to pay for it once and for all. Christ died once, for all. The just one for we who are unjust in order that he might bring us to God
[00:02:24] having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. What this is telling us is, we owe God a perfect life. But God fully and completely canceled the debt for the sake of
[00:02:37] his son. Now what is our response to that? Humble willingness to obey him, to serve him, to adore him, to honor him, to praise him, to lift him up, to proclaim what he has done. This is our
[00:02:51] response. Spirit induced, given by God to honor him with our life and to say my life belongs to you. In the days of having we're going to talk about the response of this servant. He should have been so
[00:03:07] incredibly grateful, so willing to forgive those who had offended him. We talked about this a few days ago about how we deal with other people who have offended and let us down. How do we deal with them? Well, the motivation for dealing with them and loving forgiveness comes
[00:03:23] and streams and flows from the grace of God revealed through the death of Jesus. That's what moves and pells and motivates us to want to obey, but also to want to forgive others. We're going
[00:03:34] to be talking a lot more about that in the days of head. Listen up. That's what the truth is today. The truth is our dad has been fully canceled, fully released, fully paid for, fully forgiven
[00:03:48] by the finished work of Jesus. Thanks be to God that when Christ said on the cross, it is finished. Indeed it was and our debt was canceled then and there. That is today's
[00:04:01] daily truth. Have a great day in Jesus Christ. Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with day balm. Pastor Dave Alman is the pastor of Mount Ho Church in Boulder, Colorado. If you feel
