[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. You're sitting in church, you're preparing to go to the Lord's Supper, and you think about all the things that you've done this past week where you failed the Lord and in the process failed other people.

[00:00:20] Maybe you made a promise to your spouse that you couldn't keep. Maybe you said an unkind word to a co-worker. Maybe a friend of yours couldn't understand why you were cursing the way you did.

[00:00:31] Maybe you thought of things that you really shouldn't have, impure thoughts, and you're sitting there in church on and on and on.

[00:00:37] We can talk about so many different sins that we commit, but on and on, you're sitting there in church and you're thinking about all the things that you've done wrong, and you think, maybe I shouldn't go to communion this week.

[00:00:48] I surely haven't been a very good witness for the Lord Jesus Christ. I surely haven't been a godly example all the time. I'm really not worthy to go. I think I'll just stay in my pew.

[00:01:02] This is Matthew chapter 26, verses 26, 27, and 28. Listen to this.

[00:01:10] Now, as they were eating, what were they eating? Remember, they were eating the Passover meal. What was there? Lamb, unleavened bread, bitter herbs and spices and wine.

[00:01:19] Okay, so now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, the unleavened bread, and after blessing it, this is interesting, they said a word of thanks in the early church and also in the Old Testament.

[00:01:31] God's people said a word of thanks for whatever they're eating. This is why we should pray before meals, right?

[00:01:37] That's what Jesus did here. Now, as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it, broke it and gave it to the disciples.

[00:01:45] Okay, now when was this? Probably in the third drinking of wine, the one that represents out of Exodus, I will redeem you, right?

[00:01:53] And of course, he didn't use a knife because it would have been irreverent to cut the bread, and so what did he do?

[00:01:58] He broke it off and gave it to his disciples. Now, as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said,

[00:02:07] Take, eat, this is my body. And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them saying,

[00:02:14] Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

[00:02:22] Did you hear that? Christ is present in this meal. He says, this is my body. This is my blood. He gives it to his disciples for what purpose?

[00:02:32] What did they receive? Did you hear this? Forgiveness of sins. My friends, when you go to the Lord's Supper,

[00:02:40] you're receiving the very forgiveness that Jesus earned at the cross. His body is present.

[00:02:47] His blood is present in, with, and under the bread and wine to renew your soul, to forgive your sins, and to promise that Christ is with you.

[00:02:57] So think about this. When you're sitting there in church, and you're thinking about all the things that you've done wrong,

[00:03:04] and you feel so unworthy, the more unworthy you feel, the more repentant you are for your sins,

[00:03:10] all the more reason to go to the Lord's Supper and receive what only Jesus can give.

[00:03:17] And what is it? His presence, his body, his blood, and his forgiveness that he earned for you on Calvary's cross.

[00:03:27] So don't sit there in the pew and say, I really shouldn't go. You really should go.

[00:03:32] If you're sorry for your sins, you should go.

[00:03:35] If you believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again for you, you should go.

[00:03:40] If you believe that Christ is present in the meal, you should go.

[00:03:43] If you believe that Christ is your living Savior and present with you all the time, you should go.

[00:03:49] If you're willing to put to death your deeds of darkness, your sinful life,

[00:03:53] and rise up to a newness of life every day, then you should go.

[00:03:58] You see, the Lord's Supper is not a meal for saints.

[00:04:02] It's a meal for sinners.

[00:04:05] It's not to, you know, make us holy.

[00:04:08] It's to give us the holiness of Christ Jesus, the presence, the power, the forgiveness, the love, the grace that only Jesus can give.

[00:04:18] So you're sitting there in church and you're thinking about whether you should go.

[00:04:24] And you say, man, I feel so bad about my sin.

[00:04:27] And Jesus says, come to me, all you who are laboring and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

[00:04:37] There is no greater rest given by our Lord Jesus than the rest that is found in the Lord's Supper.

[00:04:45] So go, receive His grace, receive His forgiveness, and walk away from the altar.

[00:04:52] When you receive that, walk away in newness of life.

[00:04:56] You're loved, you're accepted, you're forgiven, you're redeemed by Jesus.

[00:05:01] And this meal is for sinners just like you and me.

[00:05:08] And that is today's Daily Truth.

[00:05:10] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
