[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Listen to what it says here in the book of Matthew, chapter 26, verse 28. Remember,

[00:00:14] we're talking about the Lord's Supper. We've been talking about that for a couple of days.

[00:00:17] This is what it says in verse 28, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for

[00:00:23] many for the forgiveness of sins. I want you to think about that word covenant. The word covenant

[00:00:30] means arrangement or agreement or pact. Okay. And you think about the word covenant, the same word

[00:00:38] means testament. Now we have the old covenant, the Old Testament and the new covenant or the New

[00:00:45] Testament. Well, what's the difference? And why did Jesus say this is the new covenant? You know that

[00:00:51] in the Old Testament, there are many different covenants that God made with his people. All of

[00:00:57] them were based on man's obedience, their willingness to obey the truths of God's word,

[00:01:03] to obey the commandments and to do what God said. Well, you know that covenant was broken over and

[00:01:11] over and over again by the rebelliousness of the people. So God had to establish a new covenant,

[00:01:17] not based on mankind's obedience on the willingness of God's people to obey his commands,

[00:01:23] but rather based on someone who would win salvation, totally free from anything we could do. And that

[00:01:31] someone was Jesus Christ. So when Jesus says, behold, this is the new covenant based on the forgiveness

[00:01:38] of sins. This covenant is solely based on Christ finished work. Jesus Christ came to save us. Jesus Christ

[00:01:47] came to live the life we couldn't live. Jesus Christ came to sacrifice himself on the cross and Christ

[00:01:53] came to defeat death. And as a result of what he has done, forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life is

[00:02:02] ours. What Jesus was saying is this covenant, this new covenant is not based on your obedience,

[00:02:08] but based on my obedience, not based on what you can do, but what I will do when I go to the cross,

[00:02:15] suffer and bleed and die for your sins and defeat death three days later. Thanks be to God for this

[00:02:22] new covenant. And now you know the difference between the old covenant or old covenants and the

[00:02:28] new covenant that Jesus established through his life, death and resurrection. How cool it is that he

[00:02:35] said these words. Let me read them again. For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for

[00:02:40] many for the forgiveness of sins. The bottom line of this covenant is forgiveness,

[00:02:45] forgiveness of sins. And we have that through faith in Jesus. So just think about that today. And

[00:02:51] remember, as we talked about yesterday, when you go to the Lord's supper, if you feel guilty about

[00:02:57] your sin, you've repented your sin, you trust in Jesus, the savior, then you know, you can go and

[00:03:03] know that it's based on the new covenant established by Jesus Christ, our Lord. And that is today's daily

[00:03:10] truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with Dave
