[00:00:00] We'll Truth Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman Hi everybody welcome back to Daily Truths. It is supernatural to serve other people. It is natural to want to be served. Let me say that again. It is supernatural.
[00:00:20] In other words, spirit and do's got empowered to be a servant to other people. It is natural, flesh and do's to want to be served. Hmm. The Jesus talk about that. I think about my own life. Let me give you an illustration.
[00:00:35] When I was 23 years old by God out of the seminary, I said when I retire, I'm going to play golf. I'm going to serve myself. We're going to get a place on a lake. Maybe next to a country club and I'm going to play golf all the time.
[00:00:48] Well, you know what? The Lord, the sort of God has worked in me so that I want to be a servant. I mean, part of the reason I'm doing Daily Truths is to serve you guys to help you grow in your faith.
[00:00:57] So, the more you are in the faith, the more your faith is cultivated by the Holy Spirit. The more of a servant you become to other people. This is what the Bible says in Jesus saying these words in verse 11,
[00:01:12] a Matthew chapter 23, the greatest among you shall be your servant. Hmm. He was talking to the crowd. He was talking to the disciples. And if there is anybody who epitomized what it meant to be a servant,
[00:01:27] it was a disciples, especially after Jesus, as said it up into heaven. So think about the life of Christ. Jesus said it this way. The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many.
[00:01:40] You think about what Philippians 2 chapter 2 verses 5 and so forth says. He did not regard equality with God something to be continually obtained, but he emptied himself taking the form of a servant. And being found in human likeness, he became obedient unto death even death on a cross.
[00:02:00] So Christ came not to be served by friends. He came to serve other people and the epitome, the height of his service, was epitomized by his death on the cross in our behalf. Now what happens?
[00:02:14] We repent, we put our trust in Jesus, the Spirit of God lives in us, the end dwelling Christ lives in us, and we start to look for opportunities not to be served, but to serve other people.
[00:02:27] Today the challenge and D.T. is look for opportunities to serve other people in your life today. Maybe a neighbor, maybe a friend, maybe a coworker, maybe a spouse, maybe a child, maybe a parent, we are always to look for opportunities to serve God by serving other people.
[00:02:45] It's one of the purposes of life. We talk about the purpose of life the other day, to no Christ and to make Christ known or to no Christ and to glorify God. We can say it in many different ways but it's all wrapped up in Jesus.
[00:02:58] Remember St. Paul said, you know, my life consists of knowing and following Jesus. Really that's what we can say about our life too. But encompassed in that is an attitude and a willingness to serve other people.
[00:03:10] So look for opportunities to serve other people today and listen to this, let it start in your home or if you're married in your marriage. There's a lot of people that get used to not being a servant to their spouse, right?
[00:03:33] Especially people who've been married for a long time. We start to take each other for granted. So I've taught couples, you know, especially in a marital counseling, people come to me and they say, man, I'm just having a really, really hard time, you know, making this marriage work.
[00:03:47] And so I tell them the 10 penny principle and you're probably thinking, what's that? So I tell them get 10 pennies, put it in your left pocket. Every time you say a kind word or you do an active service or a word of affirmation,
[00:03:59] you do something that demonstrates service and kindness to your person. Every time you do that, you take one penny out of your left pocket and put it in your right pocket.
[00:04:08] By the end of the day, there ought to be 10 pennies in the other pocket because you've demonstrated a love and service and kindness to that person in ten different ways during the day.
[00:04:18] Now for a lot of people who aren't used to doing that, it seems very contrived and manipulated. But unless people get used to being servants to one another in the home, it will never happen. So that's my encouragement to you.
[00:04:32] If you've gotten in a rut in your marriage where, you know, you're pretty much self-centered and caught up in what's going on in your life and so forth, look for opportunities to serve your mate. Okay? All right. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:04:48] And that is today's daily truth. They know by the way, many of you have asked me, how are you feeling from your hip surgery? I am great. I'm almost 100 percent. It's been about three to half weeks now and I'm doing so well.
[00:05:01] Thank you for your prayers and everything is going wonderful and I praise Jesus. I can be more of a servant now because I can get around better. By the way, my wife had to serve me by putting my socks on and mowing the lawn. Holy cow.
[00:05:16] But she did it so willingly and so lovingly and so sacrificially and uncomplainingly. Why? Because she's a servant. So are you. Have a great day as a servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and that is today's daily truth.
