[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. But Jesus goes on in this text and he says, One more incredible pivotal, marvelous, wonderful thing. We pick up verse 31 and Jesus just gives us just a tidbit of real truth here.
[00:00:22] And ask for the resurrection of the dead. Can you see it on the screen by the way? Okay up there. And ask for the resurrection of the dead. Have you not read what was said to you by God?
[00:00:35] I love this. I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. What's that saying?
[00:00:52] There are some people listen to this folks. There's some people believe that when you die, your soul sleeps. It kind of goes into a limbo state. You're in this unconscious state and you're just waiting to be revived.
[00:01:07] What does this say? The God is the God of the living and not the dead. He's the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It doesn't say he was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
[00:01:21] Jacob, it says he is the God. What does that mean? That Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when they died, they're so separated from their body. And they went to be with Jesus, amen? That's what it means. So we believe in the immortality of the soul.
[00:01:38] We believe like the penitent thief that the moment we die, we're going to be in paradise above with our Lord Jesus. And you're probably thinking, well what about our bodies? We've already talked about that. Our bodies will be raised.
[00:01:50] Christ will come back, our souls will be reunited with our bodies and body and soul together. We'll go in the glories of heaven for the ultimate marriage. So in conclusion, because we have this marvelous assurance, my brother, Al, was a mentor to me.
[00:02:08] And he was not a pastor, but he was a very godly guy. And he loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. Was he perfect far from it? Was he a sinner? Oh yes, did he make a lot of mistakes as a parent as a father? Oh yes.
[00:02:22] But he adored the Lord Jesus. He was a silent humble type who didn't talk a lot about his faith, but when he did, oh my goodness, his faith would radiate with great joy and peace and security.
[00:02:35] And he had incredible knowledge. Well, unfortunately, some 14 years ago he was diagnosed with a disease called a glioblastoma, which is the widow maker.
[00:02:46] It's the worst tumor you can get in your brain. It's a hundred percent fatal. And the last two months of his life, I had the privilege and the honor of being his pastor.
[00:02:58] And he went in and out of the hospital and when he was out of the hospital, he was in our house in the basement.
[00:03:05] And so I got to talk to him about the Lord Jesus consistently, but because he couldn't remember things from one minute to the next, everything he heard was like he was hearing it for the first time.
[00:03:18] And so I can remember one day he said, these words, oh Dave, I'm so afraid to die. And I'd say, ow, Jesus died for you, man. He paid the full penalty for your sin.
[00:03:47] He defeated death through his resurrection. And all those, including you, all those repent and put their trust in Jesus are going to heaven.
[00:03:58] We're all the problems of this world are gone and you'll be with Jesus forever. It's going to be marvelous, ow. The pain you're in now will all be gone. It's going to be marvelous and he go, oh Dave, that is so good to hear.
[00:04:15] And now we're going by and he'd say this, oh Dave, I'm so afraid to die right. And I sure the same story to him.
[00:04:27] And the same words, almost exactly the same words. And after five minutes to take, oh Dave, that is so good. And now we're past by, oh Dave, I'm so afraid to die.
[00:04:41] Same thing, oh my friends, oh wouldn't it be wonderful if we could listen to the gospel as if it's a very first time we've heard it. There's nothing that's been more offensive to me than down through the years when people have said you talk about Jesus too much.
[00:04:58] I've heard that stuff about the death and resurrection of Jesus too much year. I need more direction for my life, more direction for marriage.
[00:05:07] And I said, well that will come but I like to talk about Jesus because he's our all-in-all and he's our goal and he's our purpose and he's the reason we're going to be living with Jesus.
[00:05:18] And that's going to be the ultimate marriage and that's what Christianity is all about. Oh, but I don't want to hear that so much. My friends, we are about Jesus Christ here at this church.
[00:05:30] Amen. What I've tried to do today is to help us understand as wonderful as marriages on this side of heaven. It doesn't even begin to compare to the glorious marriage we'll have with Jesus forever. The bride united with the groom forever and ever and ever.
[00:06:07] That will be the ultimate marriage. Amen. And now may the peace of God with your past as all understanding God, your hearts and your minds through faith and Christ Jesus. That's a life everlasting. Amen. Thank you for tuning in to Daily Truths with Dave Almond.
