[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Father's wouldn't be fathers without mothers, right? And so on this day I want to really thank the Lord too for my wife. Now, the sermon isn't about her, but we've been married
[00:00:18] for 47 years and she is my best friend. We spend a lot of time together especially in retirement which is one of the things I love about retirement is we can spend a lot of time
[00:00:29] together so we won't go to ball games together and we go camping together and we go on hikes together and we write bikes together and you know we watch ball games on TV. She loves baseball. How many women love baseball? We'll sit down with her husbands and watch
[00:00:45] baseball on TV. Many of you would say, boring right, but that's a kind of woman she is. And I just love her dearly and she is the same woman at home that she is here at church
[00:01:02] and I could go on and on and on. I know this message isn't about my wife, I get that. But I wish I could be married with her in heaven forever. Now I have a couple questions I want
[00:01:16] to ask you today. Is there marriage in heaven? We're going to be answering that question today through the text. Is there marriage in heaven? And secondly, what is the ultimate marriage? Let me say that again. Is there marriage in heaven? And what is the ultimate marriage?
[00:01:36] And if you think you know the answer, the answer may surprise you today as I walk you through this text and we're going to be looking at this text in Matthew chapter 22 we're going to go
[00:01:47] through it, verse by verse and we start with verse 23. Now before we look at verse 23, the sadacies were the second tier of spiritual leaders of the Jewish nation in Jesus' day. The first
[00:02:01] tier was the Pharisees, the second tier were the sadacies right? Now listen to this, the sadacies did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. Nor did they believe in angels,
[00:02:17] nor did they believe in spirits, nor did they believe in the Messiah who was to come and my thought is why bother? If you're going to be a spiritual leader and you deny all those things,
[00:02:31] why bother? So we pick up verse 23 and it says this, the same day sadacies came to Jesus who say that there is no resurrection. I want to stop right there and ask you, what would your life be
[00:02:46] like? If what we were talking about and singing about in the Him that preceded this message today never whatever exists, would you be here today? If there were no resurrection of the dead,
[00:03:00] if there were no life beyond the grave, if there was no victory beyond defeat, if you knew you would never see your loved ones again and they would not be raised from the dead. Would you be here
[00:03:11] today? The answer is absolutely not. And yet these religious leaders were telling their people, there's no resurrection of the dead and they wanted Jesus to agree with them. And so they did done some reading of the Apocrypha which is not a biblical book and the author of this
[00:03:39] Apocrypha book was a guide by the name of O'Bent, who told this story that I'm about to read. So we pick it up again in verse 23. The same day sadacies came to him who say there is no resurrection
[00:03:52] and they asked him a question saying, teacher, Moses said, if a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up the children for his brother. This is true, okay?
[00:04:03] Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died having no children left his wife to his brother. So to the second and third down to the seventh after them all, the woman died
[00:04:15] in the resurrection therefore the seven, whose wife will she be for they all had her. Okay? So what are they trying to say to Jesus? They're saying, we don't believe in the resurrection
[00:04:31] and we're not sure you believe in the resurrection either. And so we're going to count our whole resurrection theme in this mysterious story about a guy who dies and then another guy dies and
[00:04:42] another guy dies. They all have the same wife and then who is she married to once she gets to heaven? Now they're basically saying we don't believe there is a resurrection. We don't believe they're
[00:04:53] going to be raised from the dead. We don't believe they're going to be married in heaven, but we're here to quiz you and put you on the spot. What do you think? Okay?
[00:05:02] Now let's look at verse 29. But Jesus answered them, you are wrong because you neither know the Scriptures nor the power of God. What an answer? Because Jesus basically is saying, the Old Testament talks about the resurrection of the dead and if you guys knew your stuff,
[00:05:25] if you really were students of the Word, if you really had here the teaching of the Old Testament, you'd know there is a resurrection of the dead because you don't know the Scriptures and yet
[00:05:39] that's studied the Word. And you're not steeped in what the Word says, you should know this, but you don't, there is a resurrection and you don't know the power of God because the power of
[00:05:51] God is going to raise people from the dead on judgment day. So you don't know the Scriptures and you don't know the power of God. Now folks if there's any thought I have for us today, it's these two things. Number one that we would know the Scriptures,
[00:06:07] that we would have a devotional life, that we would spend time in the Word and Bible study in small groups and in devotional life for sure and obviously in church. But also we would look back
[00:06:18] over our life and we would see the power of God because the same power of God that lives with us by our side upon the plane, carrying us through is the same God that defeated death risk on
[00:06:34] Jesus Christ. And the one who still distorms, namely Jesus and the one who walked on water, namely Jesus and the one who raised the dead, namely Jesus is in charge of your life and he
[00:06:49] himself showed his power by rising from the dead and when he did that, some 40 days later, he has sent it up into heaven and he said to us, I'm coming back and when I come back as we
[00:07:03] heard in the Gospel reading today and the epistle readings today, when I come back, I am going to raise the dead. Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with Dave Olman. Pastor Dave Olman is the pastor of Mount Hoard Church in Boulder, Colorado. If this ministry is
