[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. We're in Matthew 20, verses 20 and 21. And it says this,

[00:00:13] When it was evening, he reclined the table with the twelve. We talked about that yesterday.

[00:00:17] And they were eating, right? I want to stop right there. Not only were they eating bitter herbs and spices,

[00:00:23] eating unleavened bread, and of course, lamb, but what else were they doing?

[00:00:27] They were drinking wine four times. Why? To commemorate what God had done in the Exodus.

[00:00:34] Exodus chapter 6, verses 6 and 7 says this, that this is what God had done for them.

[00:00:39] First of all, he'd taken them out of the land of being a hostage in Egypt.

[00:00:44] Secondly, he had delivered them from slavery. Thirdly, he redeemed them through the plagues, right?

[00:00:50] And number four, they were his people. Now, that has great significance for us.

[00:00:56] Number one, God has taken us out of the land of sin and hell and death.

[00:01:01] Number two, he's delivered us from sin and hell and death through his son, Jesus Christ.

[00:01:07] Number three, he's redeemed us. How? Through the shed blood of Christ.

[00:01:13] And remember we said, the angel passes over, we're under the grace of God,

[00:01:17] and we're delivered from sin and hell and death and set free. That's what it means to be redeemed.

[00:01:22] We've been set free from that. And then finally, the declaration is we're children of God.

[00:01:28] He is our God and we are his people. And all of that is symbolized in this meal.

[00:01:35] So here's the thing. When you think about what these people did in commemorating the Passover,

[00:01:40] it had a dual significance. They could look back and see what God had done for them through the deliverance from the clutches of the Egyptians,

[00:01:48] especially the clutches of Pharaoh, and they were taken to the promised land.

[00:01:52] We've been rescued, saved and delivered from the clutches of sin and hell and death.

[00:01:57] And we're headed to the promised land where we're with the Lord Jesus forever, where all the problems in this world fade away.

[00:02:05] How cool is it that it had a dual significance in this Passover meal, right?

[00:02:10] And what were they eating? They were eating the meat of the lamb, right?

[00:02:15] And that symbolized that the very next day, Jesus Christ would be the Passover lamb who would sacrifice himself on the cross, shedding his blood to set us free.

[00:02:27] I love it.

[00:02:29] So as we dig deeply into this Passover meal, which we've done already a little bit,

[00:02:34] we're going to find out more and more the dual significance of the Passover.

[00:02:38] And of course, tomorrow we're going to be talking about the betrayal of Judas, right?

[00:02:43] And we're going to be reading this and you can read this ahead of time if you want to.

[00:02:48] As they were eating, he said, namely, Jesus said,

[00:02:50] Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me to set up our little devotion for tomorrow.

[00:02:57] Do we ever betray Jesus?

[00:02:59] Oh, yeah. Unfortunately, we do.

[00:03:03] We will talk about that tomorrow, but we'll talk about the grace and love and mercy of God for us just the same.

[00:03:11] So have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:03:13] You're loved, accepted, redeemed, forgiven.

[00:03:17] The grace of God is upon you.

[00:03:20] Bask in that today.

[00:03:21] I just love talking about Jesus and the amazing, astounding grace that God has given us through his son.

[00:03:27] We are so blessed.

[00:03:28] We are so blessed.

[00:03:29] We are so blessed to know God as a loving, gracious God.

[00:03:34] And here's the thing.

[00:03:35] I'm going off a little bit, but here's the thing.

[00:03:37] There's so many people when you ask them, what is God like?

[00:03:39] He's a God of judgment.

[00:03:41] He's a God of wrath.

[00:03:42] He's a God of punishment or he doesn't exist, right?

[00:03:45] Very few people, except for Christians, know God as a loving, gracious, forgiving God.

[00:03:49] That's the way we know him.

[00:03:51] And it was never more vividly and powerfully displayed than in the Exodus when all the people had rebelled against God, right?

[00:04:00] So many times.

[00:04:02] And of course, when they got out of Egypt, they were heading to the promised land.

[00:04:05] They built a golden calf, right?

[00:04:08] So God still loved them and called them his own, told them to repent.

[00:04:13] He does the same thing with us.

[00:04:15] We repent of our sin.

[00:04:17] We put our trust in Jesus and God's declaration of love and acceptance is upon us.

[00:04:22] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:04:24] And that is today's Daily Truth.
