The Blind Leading the Blind | Matthew 23:16-17

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman and the disciples with the Pharisees and scribes probably within your shot. WOE TO YOU BLIND GYDS! Can you imagine being a blind guy?

[00:00:41] Okay folks, I can't see it but over there are the mountains over there are the trees. There is the beautiful, the blind leading and guiding other people listen to that. So Jesus is pretty much saying, scribes and Pharisees, you are blind and you're leading

[00:00:57] people also who are blind because what you're teaching them is not true. So listen to what it says, what do you blind guys who say? If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple

[00:01:10] he is bound by his oath. You blind fools for which is greater the gold of the temple that has made the gold sacred? Okay so what's going on here? Well people were taking those and the scribes and Pharisees were basically saying,

[00:01:25] hey you can take an oath by gold. Not by the temple so you can go ahead and take an oath by the temple. It's not that big a deal but by gold. The gold is that which covered the temple. You can't take an oath by that.

[00:01:38] So it's okay to take an oath by the temple. What in the world is that? What does the temple, the Old Testament and of course in Jesus' day the temple was Zaryn Jerusalem? What does it represent the presence of God?

[00:01:50] So they're kind of minimizing their relationship with God by saying go ahead and swear by the temple. But if it's gold or you can't do that, how misguided? How misled? How blind is that? So we have the blind today leading people who are blind.

[00:02:10] What do I mean by that? The blinder is saying today the world evolved by the big bang that you and I evolved from monkeys. The baby is not a baby until it's born. There is no heaven, there is no hell, there is no God, there is no devil.

[00:02:29] That's just a myth in a fairy tale. That's not true. That's what these blind people are saying. And then finally you determine your own morality. You dictate to yourself what you think is fair and foul right and wrong true and not true.

[00:02:43] You determine your own morality and you also determine your own fate. And if there really is eternal life beyond the grave, then you can get there by your works. All these things are the blind leading the blind.

[00:02:57] Now I want to ask you today how do you know what's true and how do you know you're not looking at things blindly, but rather looking at things with your eyes wide open. Here's the thing.

[00:03:09] The Holy Spirit gives us eyesight, spiritual eyesight to see and to formulate and to dictate and to know the truth. And what is the truth? The truth is found in God's Word, especially revealed in the 10 commandments,

[00:03:28] in the words of Jesus on the sermon of the Mount and in the latter portions of the epistles. This is where our morality is found. This is where our truth is found. So what do we say?

[00:03:39] We say that the world didn't come into existence through the Big Bang, the world came into existence and the universe and all living things came into existence during the six days of creation and God rested on the seventh day.

[00:03:52] What do we say that we didn't evolve from monkeys that were fearfully and wonderfully made in that life begins at conception? What do we say? What is the truth? That there is a God, namely Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

[00:04:07] And God saw the fact that Adam and Eve had fallen into sin and so wrote a prescription for us to be saved and the prescription was, son, go to planter earth, live dying rise again to rescue, save and redeem my people. Right?

[00:04:21] And then as a result of us having faith in Jesus, putting our trust in the Triune God, father, son and Holy Spirit, there's a morality that dictates how we live and where is that morality found in the Word of God?

[00:04:33] And so you see my friends, this is truth. The blinder has had been removed, the eyesight, the spiritual eyesight has been given to us by the Holy Spirit. And so these Pharisees and scribes were blind not knowing the truth and they were leading people who also were blind

[00:04:52] who couldn't discern and understand and know the truth of God's Word. They were the blind leading the blind. So what do we have? We have the one true God who opens up our eyes, removes the blinders of unbelief and gives us the truth of God's Word.

[00:05:08] Thanks be to God, we have that. So the bottom line of this is most people on planet earth are being led by blind guides, right? And we're being led by the Spirit of God, which points us to the truth of God's Word.

[00:05:24] Live in that truth, continue to know that truth, grow in the understanding of that truth and share that truth. And this is you know that daily truth is a very evangelical podcast.

[00:05:36] My final desire really is that you would know the truth and share the truth with other people, right? And we know that the truth of God's Word, especially the truth that Jesus gives us sets us free. That's the primary focus along with God, five minutes and forty cents.

[00:05:52] That's the primary focus of daily truth. Know the truth and share that truth with others. And really continue to have the blinders of unbelief, removed by the power of the Holy Spirit so that you can discern, ascertain, know and share the truth. And that is today's daily truth.
