The Right Stuff | Matthew 23:13-15

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Most of the time it does not. Am I speaking to anybody who can identify with that? And the reason it usually doesn't go well is usually a wrong part is provided.

[00:00:44] And maybe I shouldn't say usually every once in a while. They give you the wrong stuff, so they got all these parts and they say this part is there and the part isn't there. And so they've given you the wrong stuff and so you can't complete the project

[00:00:58] and I don't get mad at all. That's not true. So they give you the wrong stuff, right? So we're here in Matthew chapter 23 and this is what Jesus says in verse 15, listen to this and again he's talking about the scribes and the Pharisees

[00:01:18] and I think they were within ear shot of Jesus words even though he is speaking to the crowds and to the disciples. This is what it says. And again, this is probably Wednesday of only week, right? Wote you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. That means false believers, right?

[00:01:37] Those who say one thing and do another and we've talked all about that. Okay, that's what a hypocrite is. For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselite. Now if this was talking about Jesus is talking about the first century Jews,

[00:01:51] they called the Macabees who are very zealous for mission work and they would go to anyone they could as far as they could to bring someone to faith in their religion and what was their religion? Judaism, however the problem was it was a false Judaism

[00:02:09] because they didn't believe in the coming Messiah necessarily and they give all these rituals, rules and regulations that people had to adhere to to be safe. We talked about that yesterday. For you travel across sea and land to make single proselite

[00:02:23] and when he becomes a proselite, you make him twice as much of a child as hell as yourself. In other words, you give them the wrong stuff. You tell them that they're saved by what they do.

[00:02:36] You tell them that if they adhere to all these regulations, rituals, rules, methodologies that somehow in some way they might make God not mad at them any more so that they can go to heaven.

[00:02:48] So they make them a child of hell because they give them quotes the wrong stuff instead of the right stuff and you're probably saying, well, pastor Dave, you know this. What's the right stuff? Here's the right stuff. This is the gospel and hopefully it's simplest form.

[00:03:06] We are sinners. We have broken God's commands. We deserve nothing but hell and punishment as a result of our rebellion against God through our sin, right? That's what we deserve. But God in His mercy allowed Jesus Christ to come to this world to live the life we could

[00:03:26] not live, keeping the commandments we could not obey to sacrifice himself as a perfect holy sacrifice on the cross bearing our sin, experiencing the wrath of God and then try him thing, does that work? Try him thing, over death through his resurrection, through his life, death and resurrection

[00:03:44] our sin has been taken away and the gates of heaven are open to us and how do we receive it? By the Holy Spirit's power we say, I am a sinner and I can't save myself.

[00:03:57] I believe that Jesus Christ died, lived and died and rose again for me so that my sins could be forgiven and I could go to heaven. And when we do that, when we by the Spirit's power repent of our sin and put our trust

[00:04:11] in Jesus, all our sins are forgiven, we're at peace with God and we're going to have it. This is the right stuff. Now what do we do with that? Well, the early church Maccabees and not the believers, they were the first century Jewish

[00:04:29] leaders of the faith called the Maccabees, they were very zealous about making their religion known. We need to be zealous about making our religion known because it's the only true religion. A couple days ago, maybe yesterday, we talked about different religions and we said there

[00:04:46] is only two religions in the world. One is religion that says, I am saved by my works. The other religion is one that says, I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe in the second religion. We should be very zealous about making Jesus known.

[00:05:03] So think today about who you can share your faith with, a neighbor, a friend, a coworker, maybe somebody in your family, maybe somebody who's not been in church for a while that needs to hear the gospel again. You can share this video with them.

[00:05:17] Here is the right stuff. We're sinners, can't save ourselves. Jesus lived, died and rose again so we could go to heaven. We repent of our sin, put our trust in Jesus and we get to go to heaven and our sins are forgiven. Jesus, the right stuff.
