[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily, this is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Pastor Dave, it's been a long time since
[00:00:09] Niagara. That's right, yeah, been a month. What a beautiful place, oh, beautiful place and you know I was, have you had any ice wine? No, it's right there, I'm showing it off, but I haven't had any. So good. Oh, is it? Yes, it's so good, it's so sweet and I've gained 10 pounds from it, but man it was good.
[00:00:30] Well, yeah, you're only supposed to drink a bottle of milk, not two or three. Oh my goodness. Anyway, folks, we went to Niagara Falls and they had this wine there that was just incredible and of course, you know, Jesus changed water into wine at the Passover, there was wine, so we as Lutheran Christians think it's okay to drink wine every once in a while. So they have this stuff called ice wine that they harvest, what, it's 17 degrees, I think?
[00:00:54] Yeah, the late harvest, like January, I agree, and yeah, just very, very cold. Yeah, and the grapes are at a certain temperature, like 17 degrees. Full of sugar.
[00:01:04] Fahrenheit, full of sugar, that's when the most sugar is present in the grapes and that's when they harvest it. So we had this stuff called ice wine, which isn't sold in a lot of liquor stores here in the United States, but it was so good.
[00:01:45] Oh, that's good.
[00:01:54] Yeah.
[00:01:56] And I think we'll have to do a lot more than that. I'm going to be, this is our final approach.
[00:02:01] Final approach.
[00:02:01] Yeah, I've got to do some praying here. I don't care if my tray is in its upright position or not.
[00:02:09] But the final approach and then going to the terminal.
[00:02:12] The terminal.
[00:02:13] The terminal.
[00:02:14] We're approaching our final approach and we're heading to the terminal.
[00:02:17] The terminal, yeah.
[00:02:18] Yeah.
[00:02:19] Which is truly final.
[00:02:20] I'll never fly again.
[00:02:23] Right?
[00:02:24] Yeah, that's pretty frightening.
[00:02:25] But, you know, I think the whole thing about what you were talking about is it's frightening for non-believers.
[00:02:31] Being terminal.
[00:02:32] Being terminal.
[00:02:33] That's really frightening.
[00:02:35] You know, this is it.
[00:02:36] This is, you know, and for believers, it's not it at all.
[00:02:40] No.
[00:02:40] It's beginning our new life with Christ.
[00:02:43] Just a, you know, it's a whole, it's a whole new thing.
[00:02:46] Yeah.
[00:02:47] And we're talking eternity here.
[00:02:48] Yeah.
[00:02:49] Yeah, absolutely.
[00:02:50] And I think you and I were talking about off the air what Jesus said when he was talking to Mary and Martha when they said, if you only would have been here, my brother would not have died.
[00:03:01] And, of course, Jesus said, eventually, I am the resurrection and the life.
[00:03:05] He who believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
[00:03:08] And he who lives and believes in me shall never die.
[00:03:12] And, of course, that's what eternal life means.
[00:03:14] That, you know, we are reaching our final destination.
[00:03:18] Yes.
[00:03:18] Oh, ladies and gentlemen, our final destination is heaven.
[00:03:23] Put your training upright.
[00:03:25] Yeah, I mean, our final destination, our final place that we're going to be is with the Lord Jesus in heaven.
[00:03:31] And you're right, Ken.
[00:03:34] Why are we?
[00:03:35] We don't need to be afraid of that.
[00:03:37] No, no.
[00:03:37] And you and I have ministered to people down through the years who had a strong, confident belief in Christ.
[00:03:43] And as they were walking through the dark valley of the shadow of death, they weren't afraid.
[00:03:47] No.
[00:03:48] Because they knew where they were going.
[00:03:50] Their salvation was certain in Christ.
[00:03:52] And they had absolute certainty that their final destination was heaven.
[00:03:56] And they really weren't terminal.
[00:03:58] That's right.
[00:03:58] That's right.
[00:03:59] So, and you heard me say, folks, wages of sin is death.
[00:04:02] You heard this a couple weeks ago in that podcast.
[00:04:05] Wages of sin is death.
[00:04:06] This is why we die.
[00:04:08] And that launches us into a little different discussion.
[00:04:11] So many people that don't know Christ get so angry at God when their loved ones die.
[00:04:16] That's right.
[00:04:16] Because they don't understand it.
[00:04:17] They don't understand what's going on.
[00:04:19] And it's kind of funny.
[00:04:20] We all die.
[00:04:21] Right.
[00:04:22] We all die.
[00:04:22] But sometimes people are like, really?
[00:04:23] We all die?
[00:04:24] Well, yes.
[00:04:25] We do.
[00:04:26] But for us as believers and believers in Christ, yeah, we die to this world.
[00:04:32] Yes.
[00:04:32] And our physical bodies now die.
[00:04:35] Yeah.
[00:04:35] We will be resurrected.
[00:04:36] It's all about the resurrection.
[00:04:38] It is.
[00:04:38] It is.
[00:04:39] And of course, our bodies are left behind, right?
[00:04:43] Yes.
[00:04:43] And then when Christ comes back, our bodies are reunited with the soul.
[00:04:47] That reminds me of this German Lutheran pastor who was trying to present the gospel to people
[00:04:51] that, you know, our soul separates from the body.
[00:04:54] And he was trying to come up with an analogy on the fly, you know?
[00:04:57] And he goes, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, what we have here, the body is just
[00:05:03] the shell.
[00:05:03] The nut has gone to heaven.
[00:05:09] That's true in so many cases.
[00:05:12] Well, it sure is in your...
[00:05:15] There'll just be a shell there.
[00:05:17] Worse than that.
[00:05:20] Oh, my gosh.
[00:05:22] But isn't it marvelous, Kent and everybody else, that we have that?
[00:05:26] Oh, yes.
[00:05:27] You know, and now the day we're broadcasting this or we're actually taping this, I guess
[00:05:33] they don't use tape.
[00:05:35] We're filming this, whatever you call it.
[00:05:36] He's old.
[00:05:37] That's right.
[00:05:39] This is election day, right?
[00:05:41] Yes.
[00:05:41] And so many folks, I know this is going to air two weeks later or whatever, but I know
[00:05:46] so many folks are so concerned about that.
[00:05:48] Yes.
[00:05:49] And are going to lose sleep over it and all of that.
[00:05:52] And you heard me say this, folks.
[00:05:53] That's all in the hands of God, too.
[00:05:55] God is going to take America where he wants America to go or where he thinks America deserves
[00:06:00] to go.
[00:06:00] So it's all in the hands of God, ultimately.
[00:06:03] And so I don't...
[00:06:05] No matter who wins tonight, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
[00:06:08] No.
[00:06:09] You know?
[00:06:10] I've got this.
[00:06:11] I lose sleep over like the Broncos game last...
[00:06:14] No, I'm just kidding.
[00:06:17] I get a little nauseous.
[00:06:20] Yes, indeed.
[00:06:22] Yes, indeed.
[00:06:23] But no, it's nothing to worry about like that.
[00:06:25] And I think we talked about it, you know, the greatest relief I felt was a few weeks
[00:06:30] ago when I said, Lord, this is yours.
[00:06:32] I finally just said, this is all yours.
[00:06:34] Why am I so concerned about this?
[00:06:37] It's all yours.
[00:06:38] You're going to take our country the direction you want to go.
[00:06:40] That's right.
[00:06:41] It's all yours.
[00:06:41] And I felt like a weight came off my shoulders, you know, just, it felt, oh, okay.
[00:06:45] Yeah.
[00:06:46] Yeah.
[00:06:46] It's just freeing.
[00:06:48] It's freeing to let it go.
[00:06:49] Absolutely, Ken.
[00:06:50] And folks, to kind of put a bow on this little podcast, we can say the same thing about death,
[00:06:57] right?
[00:06:58] We don't have to fear it.
[00:07:00] We don't have to worry about it.
[00:07:02] It's why St. Paul says, and almost in mock derision, oh, death, where is your sting?
[00:07:07] Oh, grave, where is your victory?
[00:07:10] The sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law, but thanks be to God who gives
[00:07:14] us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:07:16] So all of you who trust in Jesus have that victory.
[00:07:20] And yes, we're all terminal.
[00:07:22] Yes, we are.
[00:07:22] And we're heading to what do you call the final distance?
[00:07:25] The final approach.
[00:07:26] The final approach.
[00:07:27] Right, our final approach.
[00:07:28] And some of us are closer to final approach than others.
[00:07:31] That's right.
[00:07:31] We're on the one-yard line, right?
[00:07:33] I mean, so we just, and we just never know when the Lord's going to call us home, whether
[00:07:37] it's a short time or a long time.
[00:07:39] But knowing indeed we have the certainty of salvation in Christ, the certainty of salvation in Christ,
[00:07:44] just relax, enjoy the ride.
[00:07:47] We're heading towards our final approach, but we know the victory is ours in Christ.
[00:07:52] I'm looking forward to seeing you in the terminal.
[00:07:56] In the concourse.
[00:07:57] The concourse.
[00:07:58] We'll change that.
[00:07:59] You want to change that to concourse.
[00:08:00] That's right.
[00:08:01] That's right.
[00:08:01] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus, everybody.
[00:08:04] The Lord's blessings.
