[00:00:01] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman

[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody! Welcome back to Daily Truths. My wife and I about two years ago when our son

[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_00]: was 18 and he had a good friend of his living with us for about six months we went on a trip

[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and we were leaving with a little bit of fear and trepidation because we really weren't sure

[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: how well they would take care of our house. We were gone for about ten days and told him,

[00:00:31] [SPEAKER_00]: make sure you do the dishes, make sure you vacuum, make sure you mow the lawn, make sure you

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_00]: take care of the house, make sure that it looks as good when we get back as it does when we leave.

[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: You the property is yours, everything needs to be taken care of, make sure that you do a good job.

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Now while we were gone we checked on them three or four times to make sure everything was taken care

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: and indeed they said everything was when we got home I remember coming down the driveway

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: up the driveway of our house and opening up the garage door and thinking oh boy what are we going to

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: see here in about ten seconds? And we walk in the door and much to our surprise the dishes were done.

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: The floor was clean, the beds were made, the rug was vacuumed, the backyard looked great even

[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_00]: trash can was out because the trash was coming the next day so we had entrusted our property to them

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: and they took care of it. And when we got the house we went, they did what we entrusted

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: them to do. In Matthew chapter 25 the parable the talents begins this way in verse 14.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: For it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants and entrusted to them his

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: property. In other words this guy was pretty well off he had some servants he said while I'm away

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: make sure you take care of the property right? Well who is the man in this story? Obviously it's Jesus

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and an infigured of sense we know he's with us but an infigured of sense he has sanded up into

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: an easteries going to come back someday and he's entrusted to us as followers of him as his servants

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: to take care of the property. What's the property? The church I'm not talking about a physical building

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about believers in Christ so how do we take care of the property? We care for one another,

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: we nurture one another, we encourage one another, we worship together and we use the gifts and talents

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: that God has given us to serve one another in love and to extend his kingdom. This is how we

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: steward the property, the church that God has given us so the big question I have for you today

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: is how are you doing with that? A few days ago actually a couple weeks ago I added a

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: motion of one of these podcasts about using your gifts and talents to serve the Lord. You're going

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: to hear all about that much more in depth here in the coming days in this parable of talents.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that God has entrusted the church to us and we are to be servants in His church. How do

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: we do that? And as you've heard me say before, this doesn't just go for young people or middle-aged

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: people it goes for everybody including retired people because as I've said before a lot of times

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: retired people think hey I've served in the church I was on this board this committee I don't need

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: do that anymore. We'll look at what Jesus said here in this parable. We're the servants of the

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: property, young people where they old people know Jesus didn't categorize people that way. He just said

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be away while I'm gone take care of my property. Oh and yes by the way this only

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: applies to you young people. No anybody who's a follower of Jesus we are to be steward and

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: caretakers of the property and in the days ahead we'll talk about just how we do that okay.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So the bottom line of this devotion is we're part of the kingdom we're part of the family

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_00]: we're stewards of the property we're servants of the kingdom let's use the gifts and talents

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: of God has given us to do just that and that is today's daily truth have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
