[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. I'm feeling on the mend. I got my hip fixed. I can't walk exactly well yet but I'm doing okay.

[00:00:16] So remember we're talking about Jesus being tripped up by the Pharisees and Herodians about paying taxes. And we pick up the story in verse 17, this is what it says there. Tell us then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?

[00:00:34] Verse 18, but Jesus, aware of their malice, said, why do you put me to the test? You hypocrites. Show me the coin for the tax and they brought him a denarius. And Jesus said to them, who's likeness and inscription is this? They said,

[00:00:49] Caesar's, then he said to them, therefore rendered as Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are gods. Now remember the Jews hated a type-perious Caesar and that's probably using inscription. It was on this denarius.

[00:01:04] Remember denarius's were manufactured specifically for taxes to the Roman government. And so they're trying to trip them up saying, as you know, the Jews were opposed to paying taxes and the Rodians wanted taxes for their pagan temples. So they're trying

[00:01:19] to trip Jesus up and what does he say? But I'll take a look at it. Who's inscription is on it? It's Tiberius Caesar, and he says, pay taxes to the Roman government. And then he

[00:01:31] says this, but render unto God the things that are gods. What do you mean there? Was he talking about tithing? Was he talking about financial giving? Or was he talking about something more? Now think about your body. Think about your life. Who does

[00:01:49] your body? Who does your life belong to? You know, stewardship 101 says the your life and your body belongs to God that God is the owner of everything and we're managing everything for God for his purposes. So what Jesus basically

[00:02:04] here is saying is, give your whole body to the Lord Jesus. Render unto God the things that are gods. So your eyes, fill up properties to serve others. Your ears fear is word. Your feet to walk his ways. Your hands for looking for opportunities

[00:02:23] to serve him. Your lips to sing his praises. Your tongue to profess his mercies and on and on. We offer the Lord our whole selves. That's what Jesus here is saying. So yes, it's right to pay taxes even though we don't fully understand why they

[00:02:40] spend the money the way they do. It's right to pay taxes and Jesus even says it here. Render unto Caesar, the things that are Caesar's but unto God, the things that are gods. So here's the bottom line of this devotion today. Give unto God your whole

[00:02:56] self. Hold nothing back. Say, Lord Jesus, my whole life is in your hands. Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord to thee. Take my moments and my days let them flow in ceaseless praise. Give the Lord your whole self. Render unto Caesar, the things

[00:03:17] that are Caesar's and unto God, the things that are gods. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ and that is today's daily truth. Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with day-bomb. Pastor Dave Alman is the pastor of Mount O'Church and Boulder
