Is Jesus Praying for You Right Now? | John 17:9

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Is Jesus Christ praying for you right now? I mean, at this very moment, at this very second, is He interceding before the throne of God in your behalf?

[00:00:24] Is Jesus praying for you right now? In the book of John chapter 17, we read these words found in the book of John 17 verse 9. And this is what Jesus says about His disciples to the Father. He says, I'm praying for them. I'm not praying for the world, but for those whom you have given me. Now, this doesn't mean that Jesus doesn't love the world.

[00:00:50] It doesn't mean that He doesn't pray for people to be saved in the world, but specifically at this moment, He's not praying about that. He's praying specifically for His disciples. Okay? I'm not praying for the world, but for those whom you have given me. I love this. For they are yours. They belong to you. So, in the following verses, what was Jesus praying for regarding His disciples?

[00:01:19] He was praying that they would keep believing in Him. He was praying for their joy being fulfilled in their close union and belief in Him. He was praying that they would be kept from the evil one, that they would cling to the truth of God's Word, that they would be able to see Jesus in all His glory when He returns. This and so much more, Jesus was praying for His disciples. Now, the question begs itself, is Jesus praying for us right now?

[00:01:48] And many theologians and scholars believe, yes, He is. And what are we to think that He's praying for anything but what He prayed for the disciples? That our faith would remain strong. That He would keep us, that God the Father would keep us from the evil one. That our joy in everyday life would be rooted in Christ. That we would look forward to the glories of heaven and being with our Lord Jesus Christ. That we would cling to the truth of God's Word. All of this and so much more.

[00:02:18] I believe Jesus is praying for us in our behalf before the throne of God. But not only that, Romans chapter 8 tells us that after Jesus rose from the dead, He is seated at the right hand of God, interceding for the faithful. What does that mean? Consistently pointing God the Father to His finished work on the cross so that we are fully at peace with God, reconciled to God.

[00:02:45] And He's constantly pointing God the Father to His finished work whereby He said, It is finished, knowing that all our sins were taken away through His suffering and death on that cross. So He's interceding that God would forgive us. He doesn't have to, like, you know, manipulate Him or make Him. God the Father is ready and willing and able to forgive based on what Jesus did. But Jesus is pointing the Father to His finished work at the cross, saying,

[00:03:13] On behalf of what I have done, Heavenly Father, forgive them for the sake of what I've done. And the Father, every time, 100% of the time, every time He does that, the Father fully forgives us for the sake of Jesus and His suffering and death on the cross. How cool is that? So to bring this all, to put this in a little bow, is Jesus praying for us? Absolutely. Is He praying for our faith? Absolutely. Is He praying for our joy to be fulfilled in Him? Absolutely.

[00:03:41] Is He praying that we would be kept from the evil one? Absolutely. Is He praying that we would cling to the truth? Absolutely. Is He praying that we would see His glory in heaven someday? Absolutely. And is He praying that God the Father would forgive us for the sake of what He did on Calvary's cross? Absolutely. So, is Jesus praying for you right now? And the answer is, without reservation, absolutely yes! He's praying for you.

[00:04:10] How cool is that? So just bask in that today. Realize that when we need help, not only is the Holy Spirit interceding for us, but Jesus is interceding for us before the throne of God. And folks, if you're anything like me, we need a lot of help. Thanks be to God, we have a Savior who's praying in your behalf and my behalf right now. Whew! What a joy to know that.
