[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. My wife and I used to watch a show that was syndicated called Suits. And it was about these New York City lawyers who were very competitive and they were really into status and success and corporate climbing and making a lot of money and positions

[00:00:26] mattered a lot and success mattered a lot. And of course, they were always competitive. I want to get your job. I want to get your job. I want to be promoted over you. I want to win more cases than you. I want to make more money than you. And that's really what the show is all about, right? And it dawned on me there's a lot of people who truly in real life find their identity or try to find their identity in those things, how much money they make, how successful they are,

[00:00:56] what position they have and on and on and on it goes. And of course, that's fleeting. It's not sustaining. What about you? Where do you find your identity? What makes your life worthwhile? Where do you find your purpose, significance and meaning? In the book of John chapter 17, verse 10, this is what Jesus says

[00:01:23] about his disciples and indirectly about you and me. All mine, in other words, those who follow me, all mine are yours. In other words, they have a relationship with you, Heavenly Father, by faith in what I am and what I do. All mine are yours and yours are mine. They're followers of me. They're believers in me. They trust in me. So they're children of God, followers of Jesus. Okay. And I am glorified

[00:01:49] in them. In other words, they testify of me. They shun evil. They try to obey my word. They're lifting up my name. They're glorifying me, putting a spotlight on me in the way they live and testify and interact with other people. So they belong to you, Heavenly Father, and they're followers of me. Did you hear that?

[00:02:10] They belong to you, Heavenly Father. They're children of God and they're believers and followers of me. This is where our identity is found, folks. Not in what people think of us, not in what people say about us, not in what kind of significance we have in the corporate world, not how successful we are,

[00:02:35] not how much stuff we have, not what kind of house we live in. None of those things are really that true source of a true biblical identity. A true biblical identity is rooted in this, being called a child of God and a follower of Jesus, a follower of Jesus and a child of God. This morning in preparation for

[00:03:00] our DT today, I was sitting out on our back patio and there's hummingbirds there all the time. They're here year round, even in 115 degree heat. I guess they don't know any better. They don't go north like everybody else, but they stick around here. They're here all year and they're glorifying God. How do they glorify God? By being a hummingbird, right? By simply flooding about, flirting about, you know, doing this.

[00:03:26] They're glorified helicopters, right? It's amazing to watch them. These incredible creatures that God has made. And how are they glorifying God? By simply doing what God has called them to do. They're hummingbirds and their identity is found in that. And they're content in that. Our identity is found in knowing Jesus, being called children of God and followers of Jesus. That's where identity is

[00:03:55] found. Our joy is found. Our peace is found. Our significance is found. And yes, even our success. A lot of times we measure success by how much money people make or what status they've achieved. Here's a real success in life. If a person gets all the way through life and they don't have a lot of money, they haven't achieved a lot, you know, in the corporate world, it really doesn't matter.

[00:04:21] That's not what life is all about. As Jesus said, a person's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions or in the success that the world says is so important. Our identity is found in who we are. Not what we do, but who we are and whose we are. Children of God, followers of Jesus.

[00:04:50] That's all sustaining. That's never fleeting. That's the title we will take with us into eternity. And may you cling to that identity today. A child of God, saved by grace, a follower of Jesus. Let me tell

[00:05:09] you what, that is where our real identity is found. And let it be so with you. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. And that is today's Daily Truth.
