[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. Merry Christmas. Isn't it great to say Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays.

[00:00:15] This is Christmas Eve day and thanks be to God we have a living Savior, a marvelous hope, assured and confident certainty of heaven all because of this passage.

[00:00:25] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

[00:00:39] This is who Jesus is. Unto us, you and me, born in sin, separated from God. Unto us a child is born. Unto us God's only son is given.

[00:00:52] And God's leadership, God's mandate to save us was upon his shoulders. And so what did he do? What is his name?

[00:01:00] His name is called Wonderful Counselor. First of all, think about that. Think about the counselors that you've been to.

[00:01:07] He gave advice that was not rooted in scripture. And how as a result of that, the things that you did, the decisions you made,

[00:01:14] didn't turn out very well because you didn't go to the Wonderful Counselor.

[00:01:19] We have one ultimate Wonderful Counselor, and that's the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:01:25] And he counsels us through the power, volition, strength, guidance, and direction of his word.

[00:01:32] Jesus, and the counsel of his word, especially the conviction of sin that he gives us, and the assurance of eternal life rooted in him.

[00:01:40] He is the ultimate Wonderful Counselor. If you want to know how to get along with people, if you want to know how to manage your money,

[00:01:48] if you want to know how to resolve conflict, and on and on and on, the Wonderful Counselor of God's word is the best Counselor of all.

[00:01:58] And that's rooted in the promises and premises of our Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:02:03] So Jesus, as our newborn King, as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, is our Wonderful Counselor.

[00:02:09] Wonderful Counselor, mighty God.

[00:02:13] Jesus is mighty God, not only because of all the things he did, like cleansing lepers and causing the deaf to hear

[00:02:20] and the lame to walk and the lepers to be healed and raising the dead, but he himself rose from the dead.

[00:02:28] This tiny babe that was born in Bethlehem lived 33 years of a perfect life, and then he died and he rose to demonstrate, articulate, and to show that he is mighty God.

[00:02:44] So his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, the everlasting Father.

[00:02:50] And what that means is you might be saying, well, I thought God the Father is our Father.

[00:02:53] Jesus is our Father too, in that he's the creator of the universe, along with the Father and the Spirit.

[00:02:59] He's the creator of the universe, but he's also the ruler of the universe, right?

[00:03:05] And so in that way, we call him, listen to this, everlasting Father.

[00:03:10] Not a Father who's here and then gone, but a Father who is eternal, who has no beginning and no end.

[00:03:17] One of the incredible, crazy things about Jesus is he had no beginning and no end.

[00:03:22] He's our everlasting Father, the one who created the universe and the one who rules the universe.

[00:03:30] And then finally it says that his name is not only Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, the everlasting Father, but the Prince of Peace.

[00:03:39] What's that mean?

[00:03:41] The initiator of peace.

[00:03:43] You and I were born separated from God, unable to overcome that gap that separated us from God called sin.

[00:03:51] But Jesus is the one who initiated peace for us with God the Father.

[00:03:57] How did he do that?

[00:03:58] Through his death on the cross.

[00:04:00] The cross becomes a bridge between us and God.

[00:04:04] The bridge that binds us together with the Father and removes that barrier of sin through his death in our behalf on the cross.

[00:04:13] What did the angel say to the shepherds that first clear, cold winter's Christmas Eve?

[00:04:20] What did they say?

[00:04:21] Fear not, for gold I bring you good news of great joy that shall be unto you and to all people.

[00:04:27] For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord.

[00:04:32] And this shall be a sign unto you.

[00:04:34] You will find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and laying in a manger.

[00:04:38] And suddenly there was with the angel a whole host of heavenly angels saying,

[00:04:41] Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth, goodwill toward men.

[00:04:48] We have peace with God through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

[00:04:54] And so on this day we say,

[00:04:57] Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,

[00:05:00] And the government shall be upon his shoulders and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

[00:05:08] The Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.

[00:05:12] Christmas is not just about presents and Santa Claus and family and turkey and eating and sharing and fellowship.

[00:05:22] This is Christ's birthday.

[00:05:24] This is the day we celebrate and rejoice because we have a living Savior, Jesus Christ,

[00:05:30] Born in Bethlehem, died on a cross, rose from the dead,

[00:05:34] And all those who trust in him,

[00:05:37] Who repent of their sin and put their trust in him,

[00:05:40] Have their sins forgiven and have eternal life.

[00:05:44] And this is the greatest gift of Christmas.

[00:05:49] So Merry Christmas, everybody.

[00:05:52] Merry Christmas.

[00:05:52] And may the peace, joy, contentment, pardon, security, love, and grace of Jesus flow into your life on this day

[00:06:02] And throughout through all the years ahead.

[00:06:06] Merry Christmas, everybody.

[00:06:08] Happy New Year.

[00:06:09] Jesus Christ is born.

[00:06:11] Hallelujah.

[00:06:12] Hallelujah.

[00:06:13] Amen.
