[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. I'm always kind of a nerd when it comes to accents.

[00:00:13] I try to speak as clearly as I can and without any accent because I think it sounds more professional.

[00:00:20] It's always interesting to me. You can pretty much tell, even for announcers, where they're from.

[00:00:25] For instance, Al Michaels, who's the announcer for Monday Night Football, maybe Sunday Night Football or Thursday Night Football now.

[00:00:31] I'm not sure. He switches around. But he calls football football.

[00:00:35] And welcome to Monday Night Football. Well, I can tell he's from New York. I think maybe Long Island.

[00:00:43] Frank Siller, who's head of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, you can tell he's from, I think he's from the Bronx or maybe Brooklyn,

[00:00:51] because he calls it the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Tunnel to Towers.

[00:00:56] I have a brother-in-law. Years ago, we saw the movie Field of Dreams.

[00:01:01] And maybe you've seen that. I love that movie. It was great.

[00:01:04] But anyway, the movie was over and we saw it with my brother-in-law and he's from Arkansas.

[00:01:09] And after the movie is over, he stood up and he looked at me and he said,

[00:01:12] that was the weirdest movie I've ever seen.

[00:01:16] Well, he has an Arkansas accent. So you're probably thinking, where are you going with all this?

[00:01:21] Well, remember, Peter is in the courtyard of Caiaphas, remember?

[00:01:26] And he's denied Jesus twice already.

[00:01:29] And so we come to this in verse 73 and it says this,

[00:01:33] After a little while, the bystanders came up and said to Peter,

[00:01:37] Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.

[00:01:42] Now, where was Peter from? He was from Galilee.

[00:01:45] And apparently people that lived around the Galilean area, around the Sea of Galilee, they had an accent.

[00:01:52] And so people could readily tell some 40 or 50 miles away as he's in Jerusalem, where he was from.

[00:01:58] His accent betrayed him. His accent gave him away.

[00:02:03] Does our accent, our accent, our way we talk, give us a way that we belong to Jesus?

[00:02:12] Can people tell by what comes out of our mouth that we're believers in Christ, that we're followers of the Holy One?

[00:02:19] Can they tell by our speech, by our conduct, by our interactions, by the way we conduct business, that we're one of Jesus followers?

[00:02:28] Does our quote accent, the way we talk, the way we interact with other people give us a way?

[00:02:35] Well, we sometimes have to say, really, at times, no.

[00:02:39] Sometimes my speech and my conduct gives away the fact that I'm a sinner.

[00:02:43] And that's true.

[00:02:45] We want to live our life according to God's word.

[00:02:49] We want to be faithful witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:02:52] We want our lifestyle to give evidence that we belong to Jesus.

[00:02:57] And most of the time, empowered by the Holy Spirit, I believe it does.

[00:03:01] But there's times when our accent, our way we live, our way that we talk does not give glory and honor and praise to our Lord.

[00:03:13] And we have to admit that.

[00:03:15] Maybe you can think of something you've done or said the last day that truly does not give evidence that you're one of Jesus followers.

[00:03:22] Do we know what we do with that?

[00:03:25] Do you know what to do with that?

[00:03:26] We bring it before the Lord in a repentant heart and we say, God, I am a sinner.

[00:03:32] I've broken your command.

[00:03:34] Sometimes my accent doesn't give evidence.

[00:03:37] The way I live, the way I talk doesn't give evidence that I belong to you.

[00:03:41] And I humbly confess that to you.

[00:03:43] And I thank you, Heavenly Father, that you've drowned that sin in the blood of your son, Jesus Christ.

[00:03:50] And I stand forgiven before you today.

[00:03:52] What a good word that is for us who many times don't let our accent define the way we live, the way we talk, define us as Christians.

[00:04:03] As a matter of fact, sometimes it defines us as sinners and we have to come to grips with that.

[00:04:08] But thanks be to God, we have forgiveness of sins in Christ Jesus, fresh and new every morning.

[00:04:14] So let your accent, let the way you talk, let the way you interact with other people consistently give evidence that you're followers of the Holy One, Jesus Christ.

[00:04:26] And that is today's Daily Truth.

[00:04:28] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
