Matthew 21:18 - Jesus was and is human. So as He was going back to Jerusalem from Bethany in the morning, He was hungry. It's hard to believe that God was hungry...but He was....because He is not only God, but man. Because He knows what it's like to be human, he sympathizes with us in our weaknesses. What a Savior He is!

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman
[00:00:08] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. I got to tell you something funny. Yesterday
[00:00:11] my wife made a presentation for her work called Classical Conversations. That's who she works
[00:00:16] for. So she was making this presentation and I thought, well, I've never heard it so I'm
[00:00:21] going to go and listen to her. And so the whole time she was talking, I guess I was
[00:00:27] so into what she was saying. I was going, hmm, hmm. And every time I was doing that,
[00:00:33] the ladies who were in the room would go, my wife said that I do the same thing when I
[00:00:41] watch movies in a theater. Hmm. Oh, kind of annoying. We all have weird mannerisms and
[00:00:50] quirks, right? That's what makes us human. In the book of Matthew chapter 21 and this
[00:00:59] is what it says about our Savior Jesus that indeed he was human. This is what it says
[00:01:07] in that scripture in the morning. This is verse 18 in the morning as he was returning
[00:01:12] to the city, he became hungry. Remember, this was a couple days after Palm Sunday.
[00:01:18] This went to Bethany. Now he returns to the city. He's got more ministry to do and he's
[00:01:23] hungry. Hmm. He gets us, right? He's a human being. He was and continues to be a human
[00:01:33] being. And now the Bible says in an incredible fashion that he fills all things. He gets
[00:01:40] us. This is what the book of Hebrews chapter four says about our Savior. We do not have
[00:01:44] a high priest who is unable to sympathize with us in our weaknesses. Yet we have one who is
[00:01:51] tempted in every way just as we are. He gets us. He gets our humanity because he was and
[00:01:59] is human. Sometimes we're thirsty. So was he. He said that on the cross. Sometimes
[00:02:06] we're tired. So was he. He fell asleep on the boat. Sometimes we're tempted. So
[00:02:13] was he in the wilderness in Matthew chapter four. He was tempted after 40 days and the
[00:02:17] first one was turn these rocks into bread because he fasted for 40 days. Sometimes we're
[00:02:22] under pressure. So was he in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was facing such pressure knowing
[00:02:29] indeed what was going to happen the next day that he sweat drops of blood. Our Savior
[00:02:35] Jesus gets us. He knows everything we've been through and he's faced everything we
[00:02:42] faced. But there's a difference. He gets us. But so much more than that. He died for us.
[00:02:50] Listen to what Hebrews chapter four says. I just quoted it. I want to quote it again.
[00:02:54] We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with us on our weaknesses. But
[00:02:58] we have one who is tempted in every way just as we are yet was without sin. He's
[00:03:05] faced everything we faced. He's been tempted in every way. But the difference between
[00:03:10] him and us is he's perfect and we are not. And as the perfect one who needed to
[00:03:16] sacrifice himself on the cross as the holy perfect sacrifice that's exactly what
[00:03:22] he did. And when we fall short of the standard of God's word, when we don't
[00:03:27] measure up the expectations that God gives us in the Ten Commandments, Jesus
[00:03:31] as the holy sacrifice went to the cross and died for that. So he gets us.
[00:03:37] And so much more than that. He died for our sin so that our sin could be taken away.
[00:03:43] Therefore, when we fail, knowing indeed that he gets us and so much more than
[00:03:47] that, listen to what Hebrews chapter four says about our Savior. We do not have
[00:03:52] a high priest who is unable to sympathize with us and our weaknesses. Yet
[00:03:56] we have one who is tempted in every way just as we are and yet was
[00:04:02] without sin. Listen to this. Therefore, we can approach the throne of
[00:04:06] grace to find mercy and receive grace to help us in our time of need.
[00:04:13] When we're human and we are when we fail and we do and temptation comes and
[00:04:19] we succumb and we will, we know where to go. We know who to call on.
[00:04:26] We know that our Lord Jesus who is tempted in every way just as we are
[00:04:30] yet died for our sins as a perfect holy sacrifice. When we ask him to
[00:04:34] forgive our sins for the sake of what he's done, he will do that.
[00:04:39] That's wonderful. That's incredible.
[00:04:42] This is why we're going to heaven.
[00:04:44] This is why we have a relationship with God.
[00:04:46] This is why our sin is forgiven.
[00:04:48] This is why we're reconciled to the Father all because of what Jesus has done.
[00:04:53] My friends, he gets us and so much more.
[00:04:59] Thanks be to God, the Jesus who was and is human fully gets us.
[00:05:06] And because he gets us, he delivers us from the guilt, power, punishment of our sin.
[00:05:15] He gets us and so much more.
[00:05:20] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:05:22] And that is today's Daily Truth.
