Give Me Oil in My Lamp! | Matthew 25:1-6

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll Truth Daily, This Is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like 10 virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the brideroom.

[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_01]: For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them.

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Now let's identify who these folks are.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_01]: First of all, who are the virgins?

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I believe they're believers because you look at this.

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: The virgins have oil in their lamps and their lamps are lit

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're burning waiting for the brideroom to cut.

[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about all the essence of what happens when the brideroom in Israel,

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_01]: back in Jesus' day came to the bride's house,

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_01]: met her and then they went back to the house.

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about all of that.

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So I believe that the 10 virgins are believers in Christ.

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Secondly, what's the lamp?

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_01]: What's the oil?

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_01]: The oil is the Word of God.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And so the point of this is we prepare for the second coming of Christ

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: by continuing to feed our faith with the Word of God.

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me say that again, we prepare for the second coming of Christ

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_01]: by continuing to feed our faith with the Word of God.

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I know people in you do too who believe in Christ,

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: but are not going to church or not watching podcasts,

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: are not beating their faith, they're not reading their bibles,

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: they're not in a small group that have faith in Christ, they say.

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_01]: But they're not feeding their faith and what is the oil that feeds our faith

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and Christ? The oil is the Word of God.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And so here's the point.

[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_01]: If someone you know says, oh, I believe in Christ,

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: but I don't need to feed my faith.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to go to church. I don't need to read the Word.

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm good. I believe in Jesus. Look at this.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: This is saying keep beating your faith.

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Keep putting oil in your lap.

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_01]: If your lap is your faith in Jesus, then it needs to be fed.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It needs oil. I've got some of these burning lamps in the backyard.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, the kind that I have that oil in them.

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes when we have people over, I'll light them.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: But after about three or four hours, they'll go out. Why?

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Because the oil runs out.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, and if I don't have oil on hand,

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: then I have to go to the store. I will talk more about that tomorrow.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, they go out.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So does a person's faith in Christ?

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And the oil is God's Word and they must continue to feed the lamp of their faith

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and Christ with the oil of God's Word.

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think of that song. Give me oil in my lap.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Give me oil in my lap. Keep burning burning.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Give me oil in my lap. I pray. Give me oil in my lap.

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Keep me burning. Be burning. Keep me burning till the break of day.

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, the break of day.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Some day, maybe in our lifetime, Jesus is coming back.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And so we prepare by continuing to put oil in our lap.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's the Word. Continue to feed your faith with the Word of God.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And that is today's daily truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
