[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll truth, Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman

[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody welcome back to Daily Truths. Today I want to talk about Jewish weddings in Jesus' day. First of all there was a bit troughful

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And the betrothal was 10 about to engagement even more binding than that. The Bridegroom and the Bride had said we're going to get married

[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: The parents were in arrangement and agreement with that and so it happened again. It was more binding than today's engagement

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And then finally when the day came, what would happen? When the day was ready for the wedding celebration to take place

[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Jesus talks about it here in verse 1 of Matthew chapter 25

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Then the kingdom of heaven will be like 10 virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the Bridegroom

[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Now this is the way it happened back in Jesus' day and I'll understand, help you understand the whole Bridegroom thing

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And the whole 10 virgins thing with their lamps lit here's how it happened. So the groom would prepare his home

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes for months for the wedding celebration. When finally the day came,

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Fram to consummate the marriage by taking the Bride to his home for the wedding itself. He would take his friends

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: He would go to the Bride's house. She would have her friends that 10 virgins if you will who would meet him out on the road

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: He would go to the door, knock on the door, the bride would meet him. Then the bridegroom's friends

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And the Bride's friends that 10 virgins if you will would go and parade in a marvelous celebration, a wonderful parade

[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: All the way back to the groom's home and there the wedding would take place

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: They would consummate the marriage by drinking from a common cup under a canopy called a chopa

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And the celebration would go on sometimes for up to week. Okay

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Now that's the picture Jesus is giving us about his second coming

[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: We are betrothed to Christ that happened in our baptism or the moment we put our faith in Jesus

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Engaged to be taken home to the Bride's home forever

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So Jesus will come quote with his friends with holy angels

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: He will take the bride namely the church those who believe in Jesus

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Home to his heavenly kingdom to live there forever

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Right? And the 10 virgins represent those who are ready to meet the bridegroom

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Right? And so Jesus will come and take us the bride home to the eternal kingdom

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Where a celebration will last not just for a week but for eternity

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my goodness how cool is that?

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Jesus said it best when he said these words in my father's house

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Are many rooms if we're not so I would have told you and low I go to prepare a place for you

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So that I can take you into myself so that where I am you can be also

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And of course Thomas said Lord, we don't know where you're going

[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And how should we know the way and what did Jesus say?

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I am the way the truth in the life and no one comes to the Father but by me

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So Jesus prepared our heavenly home by going to the cross and dying for our sins on that cross

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Now the heavenly mansions are ready Jesus will come back and take the bride with him

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Back to the eternal kingdom and we will live in his presence forever

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the picture the Jesus is painting here as we begin this parable of the 10 virgins

[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope that was helpful so my friends get ready the bride groom welcome at any time and when he comes

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my goodness as we've said so often would a marvelous unparalleled celebratory day that will be until then

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Continue to keep your lamps lit and of course we're going to talk all about that in the days that continue to keep your lamps lit

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Have repentance in your heart and faith in Jesus and continue to live for him from day to day

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And again my opinion is he's coming back in our lifetime so get ready the bride groom

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And his return may be just around the corner

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And that is today's daily truth have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ
