[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:08] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths.

[00:00:10] Today I want to talk about anger.

[00:00:11] Anger rarely is a good thing to have.

[00:00:14] You probably agree with that but sometimes we have bits of rage and we lose our temper

[00:00:19] and usually it makes a mess of things, isn't that right?

[00:00:23] Now in Matthew 20 as you remember Mrs. Zabidi if you will, Selomi was her name, had two sons

[00:00:29] James and John so she comes to Jesus, we had a devotion about this a couple days ago.

[00:00:34] She comes to Jesus asking, grant that when you come into your kingdom my kids might sit

[00:00:38] right next to you.

[00:00:40] And Jesus said, you know, he looks at his disciples and James and Johnny says, are you guys

[00:00:45] able to drink the cup that we're going to be drinking?

[00:00:48] And they said we are able.

[00:00:49] And then Jesus said, well you're going to be drinking the cup but it's not for me to

[00:00:54] grant this request.

[00:00:56] I defer to God the Father and we talked about that yesterday.

[00:01:00] Now pick this up, this is what it says in verse 24 and when the 10, the other disciples

[00:01:07] heard it they were indignant at the two brothers.

[00:01:12] Oh bet.

[00:01:17] First of all why were they indignant?

[00:01:18] Well, they probably weren't indignant because they even asked that.

[00:01:22] You know why in the world would you put yourselves above us and even ask that?

[00:01:27] Can't we be considered?

[00:01:29] Shouldn't we be there too?

[00:01:30] So they're probably jealous about that.

[00:01:32] Secondly, they're probably indignant.

[00:01:34] Why did you send your mom up to do that?

[00:01:37] I remember when I was growing up in high school, you know, you had to have your mommy help

[00:01:42] you.

[00:01:43] You know, that kind of thing.

[00:01:44] I think probably the disciples were thinking the same thing.

[00:01:46] Why in the world did you bring her into the situation?

[00:01:49] And then finally, they probably thought well why weren't we asked?

[00:01:53] Why didn't we just go directly to the Lord Jesus and ask if we could be elevated up to

[00:01:59] his glorious throne as well.

[00:02:00] So they're filled with indignant righteous, maybe righteous anger, right?

[00:02:06] Now I want to talk about anger today since these guys were so angry about what James and

[00:02:11] John and their mom was requesting.

[00:02:14] Rarely is anger a good thing.

[00:02:17] And when we harbor it, we oftentimes take it out on people that are closest to us.

[00:02:23] Isn't that right?

[00:02:24] Now Paul talks about anger.

[00:02:26] There's a few verses that I want to cite.

[00:02:27] He says first of all, be angry but do not sin.

[00:02:31] Don't let the sun go out down on your anger.

[00:02:34] In other words, there's times when things happen in our lives that rightfully make us angry.

[00:02:39] But what is Paul saying there?

[00:02:41] Don't hang onto it.

[00:02:42] Don't go to bed angry.

[00:02:44] Don't wake up in the morning the next day thinking about how that person will argue and

[00:02:49] the anger that is seething out of your heart as a result of what they did.

[00:02:53] Don't go to bed angry.

[00:02:55] And then he says this in a different part of scripture, put away then anger, wrath, malice,

[00:03:00] slander, and abusive speech.

[00:03:02] It's interesting how the first thing he mentions is anger and how it's a result of that wrath,

[00:03:08] malice, slander, and abusive speech often comes out of one's mouth.

[00:03:13] Right?

[00:03:14] He said replace those things with the fruit of the spirit.

[00:03:17] What's the fruit of the spirit?

[00:03:18] Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, generalists, and self control.

[00:03:24] Now, let's put it this way.

[00:03:26] There is a time when we have a righteous, a just anger like over the war of Ukraine, right?

[00:03:33] Like a mass attacking Israel.

[00:03:35] Like this horrible thing called abortion.

[00:03:37] We should have a righteous anger about that.

[00:03:40] But most of the time, anger is not a good thing.

[00:03:44] And we should put it away as quickly as possible.

[00:03:47] Now speaking about anger, God the Father had anger about our sin, but he didn't take it

[00:03:54] out on us.

[00:03:55] He took it out on his son, right?

[00:03:58] We just quoted that passage.

[00:04:00] Be angry and yet do not sin.

[00:04:02] Don't let the sun go down on your anger before the sun set on good Friday.

[00:04:07] God had laid his anger and wrath upon his son, Jesus, in behalf of our sin instead of

[00:04:13] us.

[00:04:14] So his anger was removed and what's left for us?

[00:04:18] His grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness.

[00:04:21] And when we by the spirit's power tap into that, our anger can dissipate.

[00:04:27] Our anger can be taken away knowing indeed that Jesus died for it and the Holy Spirit

[00:04:32] that empowers us to put away anger and to walk in obedience and a new life in Jesus Christ.

[00:04:40] I don't know what you're angry about today, hopefully nothing, but you might be.

[00:04:45] And maybe it was something was done to you or said to you or somebody disappointed you

[00:04:50] or frustrated you and has resolved with it.

[00:04:52] You're just angry, angry about it.

[00:04:54] And maybe you can't even sleep as a result of it.

[00:04:57] May I encourage you to let it go?

[00:05:00] The disciples were indignant, but Jesus dissipated that kind of diffuse that as quickly as possible.

[00:05:07] Rarely is anger a good thing.

[00:05:10] And if you're angry today about something in your life, give it to the Lord.

[00:05:15] Let him have it.

[00:05:17] Know that Jesus died for it.

[00:05:19] It's removed from your account and you can walk with an attitude of peace, joy, resiliency,

[00:05:26] courage and deep faith knowing indeed that you don't have to live under the wake of your

[00:05:31] anger.

[00:05:32] You can let it go, forgive those people from the heart who have wronged you and live

[00:05:36] at peace with them.

[00:05:38] It is the only way to live.

[00:05:41] And I know I save that a lot on DT, but really that's true.

[00:05:44] It's the only way.

[00:05:45] You want to go through life?

[00:05:46] Angry all the time?

[00:05:47] Who does?

[00:05:50] Let it go, my friend.

[00:05:52] Let it go just as God let go of His anger and meet it out on His Son.

[00:05:58] That is today's daily truth.

[00:06:00] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
