Matthew 26:30-33 - Peter says to Jesus that he will never fall away. He made a promise that he had every intention of keeping, and so do we.

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. One of my favorite movies is the movie The Greatest Showman.
[00:00:12] And in that movie, there's this song called From Now On. And the chorus of it goes like this.
[00:00:19] Now, I'm not going to sing exactly like Hugh Jackman, but I'll give it a try.
[00:00:23] From now on, these eyes will not be blinded by the light. From now on, what's waited till tomorrow starts tonight. It starts tonight.
[00:00:35] Let this promise in me start like an anthem in my heart. From now on, from now on...
[00:00:48] Whew! Not very good. But from now on... Okay, how many times have we made promises to God,
[00:00:56] From now on, I'm going to be different. From now on, I'm going to quit that nasty habit.
[00:01:03] From now on, I'm going to go to church more. From now on, I'm going to read the Scriptures more.
[00:01:10] From now on, I'm going to serve more and be a better witness. From now on, I'm going to lose weight.
[00:01:16] From now on, I'm going to eat better. From now on, I'm going to exercise more. And on and on and on it goes.
[00:01:25] We make these promises. We say you can depend on me. I'm your right hand person. From now on, I'm going to change. I'm going to be different.
[00:01:35] Eh.
[00:01:39] Matthew chapter 26, verses 30 to 34. Actually, 33 says this.
[00:01:48] And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. We talked about that a few days ago.
[00:01:53] Then Jesus said to them, you will all fall away because of me this night.
[00:01:57] For it is written, I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
[00:02:02] But after I'm raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.
[00:02:06] We talked about that yesterday, that the Holy Spirit makes us kind of move away from that.
[00:02:11] Nothing to see or move along. OK, but listen to this. Peter answered him from now on.
[00:02:17] Basically, is what he's saying. Though they all fall away because of you.
[00:02:21] I will never fall away. Well, we know what happened. Right.
[00:02:28] That night, he denied him three times. Right. OK, so we understand that.
[00:02:32] Now, think about this. Think of what Jesus did when he met Peter after he rose from the dead,
[00:02:37] because first Corinthians chapter 15 tells us that when Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared first to Peter.
[00:02:46] What do you think that greeting was like? What do you think that reunion was like?
[00:02:53] What took place? What did Jesus say? What kind of admonition did he give?
[00:02:58] Did he rebuke him? Did he correct him? Did he wag his finger at him and say, I told you so?
[00:03:04] I don't think so. I think there was love, acceptance and pardon.
[00:03:10] My friends, we can make promises to God. We can say from now on, Jesus understands who we are.
[00:03:16] We make those promises, but he understands we're fallible, air prone people.
[00:03:21] And what does he do in the midst of the promises that we break?
[00:03:26] He reaches his arms out to us and he forgives and he gives us strength and help and encouragement and power in the Holy Spirit to fulfill our from now on.
[00:03:37] Yeah. I mean, we talked about all these different from now on that we make.
[00:03:41] But do you know what? The Holy Spirit gives us power to actually fulfill them.
[00:03:47] But sometimes we don't. And when we don't, Jesus is there with his arms wide open, filled with love, acceptance and pardon.
[00:03:58] Thanks be to God that we have his love and acceptance for the times we break our from now on.
[00:04:07] And that is today's Daily Truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
