[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Why did Judas Iscariot betray Jesus? And I know the surface, 30,000 foot answer is, well, he was greedy and he wanted the money and he betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. And we know that's true. Listen to what it says here in Matthew chapter 26, beginning to read at verse 14 through 16.
[00:00:27] Then one of the 12, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priest and said, what will you give me if I deliver him over to you? And they paid him 30 pieces of silver. And from that moment, he sought an opportunity to betray him.
[00:00:47] 30 pieces of silver. That's like a few days wages. Why in the world would Judas betray Jesus for that small of an amount? I think it goes beyond, I know this is speculation, but I think it goes beyond just the fact that he was greedy and he was a treasure and might have pilfered money on the side out of the disciples treasury. I think it goes deeper than that. And you're probably thinking, well, what's your speculation, pastor?
[00:01:11] I think he was disappointed to a certain degree with the mission and ministry of Jesus.
[00:01:17] I think all the disciples thought that Jesus would establish an earthly kingdom, crunch out the Romans, and they would reign with Jesus in Jerusalem, that he would be a mighty warrior, a mighty king, that he would just rule and reign from Jerusalem and they would reign and rule with him.
[00:01:33] They'd be an authority. They'd be in charge. They thought his kingdom was of this world. And it wasn't. And so I believe that there was disillusionment, disappointment in Jesus on the part of Judas Iscariot and maybe the other disciples do, because after all, they all left Jesus when he was crucified, except for John.
[00:01:55] So let's take that point and apply it to you. We know what Christ has done. We know he's performed miracles. We know he suffered and bled and died on the cross to pay for our sins.
[00:02:06] We know that he conquered the grave through his triumph and resurrection. We know all of that.
[00:02:11] But how many times have you prayed to the Lord to ask him to do certain things in your life?
[00:02:17] And he didn't do it. You prayed for your wayward kids and they didn't come home to the Lord Jesus.
[00:02:24] You prayed for a fractured relationship that somehow would be healed. It didn't happen.
[00:02:29] You prayed for a promotion at work and you never got it.
[00:02:33] You prayed that a loved one who is sick would be healed and they passed on instead over and over and over again.
[00:02:39] We can talk about the things that we prayed about to the Lord and seemingly his answer was silent or at the very best, not now or no.
[00:02:50] Right. And let's face it. We're human beings.
[00:02:53] When Jesus doesn't do what we want him to do, when we want him to do it, we can become disappointed, disillusioned.
[00:03:01] And yes, our faith can be tested.
[00:03:03] Now, here's the thing, my friends. Jesus Christ did not come into this world to solve all our problems, but rather he came to this world to seek and to save those who were lost.
[00:03:14] He came to this world to solve our biggest problem, which is sin.
[00:03:18] And he carried our sin all the way to the cross and paid for it there.
[00:03:23] Therefore, as a result of that, we have the greatest healing of all, which is forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.
[00:03:30] And so we must hang on to our faith by the power of the Holy Spirit, trust in Jesus no matter what, because we know that there's a day when all the problems of this world will be gone,
[00:03:41] when a new heaven and a new earth will be established and we'll live with the Lord Jesus Christ forever.
[00:03:46] So many times.
[00:03:48] We want things to happen on our timetable, but I want to tell you, if you are a Christian, there is delayed gratification in store for you.
[00:03:58] You may not get everything you want here on planet Earth.
[00:04:01] You may not have all your problems solved as you pray to the Lord Jesus about them.
[00:04:05] But one thing I can tell you, the best is yet to come.
[00:04:09] One thing I can tell you is that a perfect life with the Lord Jesus is coming either when we pass on and our soul goes to be with Jesus or when Christ comes back and restores a new heaven and new earth.
[00:04:21] And everything is just the way you and me and God wants it to be.
[00:04:27] Until then, every time we, quote, are disappointed with God, disappointed that Jesus didn't come through for us as we thought he should.
[00:04:37] We can hang on to our faith and realize, hey, I am here going through difficulty and trouble and struggle and trial and dealing with my own sin and dealing with the sins of other people.
[00:04:49] I know that that's my lot here down on Earth.
[00:04:53] And Jesus Christ did not come to take away all my problems.
[00:04:56] He came to take away my sin.
[00:04:59] He didn't come to fix my life.
[00:05:00] He came to fix my eternal life by doing what he did so I can have what I have.
[00:05:06] So here's the bottom line.
[00:05:08] We don't know exactly why Judas did everything he did.
[00:05:11] I think it goes way beyond greed.
[00:05:13] I think he sometimes was disappointed with the way things were turning out.
[00:05:17] He could see the handwriting on the wall.
[00:05:20] He could see that Jesus indeed was going to be eventually killed by the Jewish leaders.
[00:05:26] And so he thought, well, I may as well get some money out of this.
[00:05:29] Things aren't turning out the way I think they should.
[00:05:32] He's not the kind of Messiah I thought he would be.
[00:05:35] And so I'm checking out.
[00:05:36] My friends, never check out on your faith.
[00:05:41] Just because things don't go your way doesn't mean that God doesn't love you.
[00:05:46] God loves you.
[00:05:47] And he demonstrated it not in fixing all your problems, but in saving your soul through his son.
[00:05:55] And that is today's daily truth.
[00:05:57] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
