[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. Great to see you today. You're probably looking at me and saying, what in the world is wrong with you? Well, I had a carcinoma up here and I had it removed yesterday and everything is fine. The cancer is gone, that kind of stuff. Many of you have had this done before, but because I do these every day, you have to look at this when I'm doing this. And I'm sorry about that, but get over it.
[00:00:32] All right. So I have a question for you today. Do you have a desire to keep the commandments of God? Right? And what are the commandments of God? To keep God number one in your life, to not take God's name in vain, to honor the Sabbath, to respect authority, to not harbor hatred towards anybody else, to have a pure life, to not covet other people's things, to not bear false witness against your neighbor, not to steal things. These are the commandments of God.
[00:00:58] Do you have a desire to do what's right and to avoid what's wrong? And you probably are saying, yeah, I do. There is an innate desire inside of me that God has placed in my heart to want to do what's right, to honor the commandments, to keep the commandments. And my big question for you today is, why do you want to do that? Well, Jesus answers that question in John chapter 14, verse 15, when he says this,
[00:01:25] If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Did you hear that? The reason you have a desire to keep the commandments of God is because you love Jesus. And if you're a follower of Jesus, that's probably the reason you watch Daily Truths, because you want that faith that you have in Jesus Christ to be strengthened.
[00:01:48] You want your love for the Lord Jesus to grow. You want to keep the commandments in your life more and more and more. Why? Because you love Jesus. And my next big question is, why do you love Jesus? Well, you know why? Because he saved you. And you believe that. You believe that he lived and died and rose again for you so that your sins are forgiven and you get to go to heaven.
[00:02:13] And that's why you want to honor Jesus by keeping his commandments. You believe that. And Jesus has sent his Holy Spirit into your life to not only give you the desire to keep the commandments of God, not only a willingness to keep the commandments of God, but you actually do keep the commandments of God. Sometimes. Not all the time. Right? Right? It's our desire.
[00:02:43] It's our willingness. It's a spirit-driven desire in our hearts to say, I want to obey the commandments of God. I love Jesus. And so I want to follow him by obeying his commandments. But we don't always do that. Why? Because sin has contaminated our life. And original sin is something we were conceived with. And we can't get rid of it. And so we sometimes find ourselves doing what's right, obeying the commandments of God.
[00:03:12] But sometimes we don't because that sin nature clings to us. But what do we know? That Jesus kept the commandments of God in our stead. The Bible says, when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem those who were under the law so that we might be adopted as sons and daughters of almighty God. Jesus kept the commandments of God when we've broken them.
[00:03:39] Not only that, for the times we do break them, he sacrificed his body, shed his blood on the cross so that we're forgiven in the eyes of God. Isn't that great? And so we love Jesus because he first loved us. Because he was an atoning sacrifice for our sin. Because he willingly and obediently kept the commandments of God that we have broken. This is why we love Jesus. And we love Jesus.
[00:04:06] And it shows by having a desire to keep the commandments. But when we don't, we go back to the cross and empty tomb, knowing that Jesus died and rose again so that we are forgiven and loved and accepted by God. And that's the bottom line of why we desire to keep the commandments. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. And that is today's daily truth.
[00:04:34] Just keep on keeping on loving Jesus and showing it by doing his will. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus. We'll see you tomorrow. Thank you for tuning in to Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
