What to Do When a Marriage is in Trouble | Matthew 19:6

[00:01:09] Hi everybody welcome back to Daily Truths. I can remember attending a Promise Keeper's event Back in the mid 90s, my life stadium And there were all kinds of different speakers there and one of the speakers got up and he started

[00:01:20] His message this way was on Marriage by the way And he started his message this way. God hates the voice and he's quoting the book of Melachi chapter 2 That really resonated with me This text says that God indeed brings couples together

[00:01:38] God instituted marriage and what God has started no one should end This is what it says in verse 6 of Matthew chapter 19 What therefore God has joined together Let not man separate God instituted marriage, God brings couples together And no one should end a marriage, no one should say

[00:01:59] I don't want to be with you anymore What God's brought together, let no individual neither man nor wife And that relationship Now there's all kinds of reasons people do in relationships In compatibility or we just grew apart or we had differences

[00:02:15] Or you know we just didn't see eye to eye about a lot of different things They give all kinds of unbiblical reasons for getting a divorce And if that's been you, let me share this Divorce is not God's will It's not something that God desires

[00:02:31] However out of the sinfulness of our heart Sometimes that happens And I know if you're a believer you probably have repented of that And I've probably asked God to forgive you for it And here's the amazing thing He does for the sake of his son Jesus

[00:02:48] He wipes our slate clean and he forgives all of our sins Including the sin of divorce Now there's a couple biblical reasons why people can't procure a divorce What are they? In fidelity and desertion Let me say that again In fidelity and desertion

[00:03:07] If those aren't the reasons a person wants to get a divorce They need to do whatever they can to try to work it out That means go to a counselor or read a book or go to a marriage retreat

[00:03:19] Or most importantly go to church and build your marriage on Jesus Christ My dad when he preached about marriage He'd often say the couple that prays together Stays together How true is that? I've been in the ministry some 41 years

[00:03:35] And very rarely did regular people who are regular tenders in worship And at family devotions rarely do those marriages end of divorce Why? Because they're bringing a third party into their relationship They're bringing the Holy Spirit in Jesus Christ into their home And with Christ permeating that home

[00:03:54] And with the Holy Spirit founding that home And establishing and solidifying that home There's great strength to work out differences To forgive from the heart and stay committed in marriage This is what God desires Now again, I want to reiterate If I'm talking to somebody here today

[00:04:12] That is how to divorce And you feel bad about it And you've confessed it before the Lord Know that God forgives you for that sin However, if you're contemplating separation or divorce from your spouse Do what I talked about today

[00:04:29] Go to a counselor, read a book, go to a retreat, talk to your pastor But most importantly start going to church together Satan hates it when couples go to church Have you ever noticed if you're marriage married?

[00:04:44] How many times you've gotten in a fight or gotten in a disagreement with your spouse On the way to or from church? Why? Because Satan hates Christian families And he'll do whatever he can to disrupt, divide and destroy Christian homes

[00:05:00] So we do whatever we can to build our relationships on Jesus Christ So that is today's daily truth I hope this was helpful and encouraging to you Remember, go to church together, read the scriptures together Hold the word of God as a fortress and a buttress

[00:05:20] Against the attacks of the evil one And know that God loves you, redeems you, empowers you And forgives you for the sake of his son Jesus Christ And he can be the permeating glue, if you will That holds your family together
