What Is the Purpose of Life? | Matthew 23:10

[00:00:00] Real Truths Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman This Pastor Dave That's a $10 question with a million dollar answer Who really knows? Because some people would say the purpose of life is to make a lot of money.

[00:00:39] You only go around once in life so you got to reach out for all the gusto you can drive a nice car, have a nice house and press people what you have.

[00:00:47] Making money is what life is all about what the purpose of life is is to make a lot of money. Some people would say it's education. Get as many degrees behind your name as possible. Remember we've been talking about the Pharisees, Sadduce, and this was their attitude exactly.

[00:01:01] They like to impress people with their scholarly knowledge and their wisdom and experience and knowledge of the Word of God and all that. Some people would say, yeah, get as many degrees, be as successful as you can, get a good education. Money is what it's all about.

[00:01:17] Some people would say the main purpose of life is just to be happy. I remember having a conversation with a young lady years ago and she was a believer in Christ. She said the only thing I want from my kids is that they just are happy.

[00:01:31] Well, is that really the purpose of life because really sometimes we aren't happy in life. Things go wrong. Things fall apart. People disappoint us. Is that really the purpose of life is to be happy? And some people would say the main purpose of life is to be successful.

[00:01:47] Just climb the corporate ladder. Do as good as you can. Let people know how successful you've been. That's what life is all about. The others would say, all I want in life is to get married and have kids and be happy. That's the main purpose of life.

[00:02:03] Now listen to me, folks. There's nothing inherently wrong with any of these ideas about what the purpose of life is all about. But honestly those come listen to this from faulty instruction, from faulty instructors. The art based on truth, they're based on worldly philosophies.

[00:02:24] Now Jesus clarifies this when he says this in Matthew chapter 23 verse 10, listen to this. Neither should you be called instructors. He's talking to the crowd and to the disciples. And he's not minimizing instruction. But he's saying basically instruction that comes from people that's not based on the word

[00:02:43] of God is always going to fall into error and falsities. Is that a word? Falsities, right? So he says neither be called instructors. What's with this? For you have one instructor, the Christ. Jesus was saying, the ultimate truth comes from me. I'm the ultimate instructor.

[00:03:06] I have the ultimate truth and what I say is how life ought to be lived. Now think about that. With that is our premise that the ultimate truth comes from Jesus spoken through the word of God, what is the purpose of life?

[00:03:23] Jesus answered that so well in John chapter 17 verse 3 when he said this. And this is in his high-preasely prayer in John 17. He said this is eternal life that they might know you, the only true God he's saying

[00:03:37] this to the Father, that they might know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. The primary purpose God placed you on planet Earth is to know God and to know his son Jesus Christ.

[00:03:57] St. Paul said it this way, he said, I count all things as loss and what did he have status recognition, money, success? He was a Pharisee who was highly respected. All these different things and he lost it all because he was converted to Christianity, right?

[00:04:12] The chapter 3, I count all things as loss compared to the passing value of knowing Jesus Christ my Lord for whom I suffer the loss of all things and count them bed rubbish in order that I might be found in Christ.

[00:04:28] Not having a righteousness of my own which is derived from keeping the law but a righteousness which is mine through faith in Jesus Christ. What Saint Paul is saying there? The number one goal of life is to no Christ and have Christ in your heart and a serve

[00:04:47] honor, obey, and live for and make Jesus Christ known in life. Listen to me now when I say this. Any other purpose of life is based on faulty instruction from faulty instructors and what

[00:05:03] I've given you today is the truth of God's Word and so many times because we live in a culture where we're so pressurized to conform to people's expectations of us. We can get so confused regarding what the purpose of life is.

[00:05:20] Remember we said that Jesus is the ultimate instructor with the ultimate instruction. So the bottom line of this message today is, if you know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and you're worshiping Him, honoring Him, serving Him, obeying Him, living

[00:05:39] for Him and making Him known everything else in life is gravy. Now I can look at my life and say yeah I've got a lot of that stuff that I talked about before.

[00:05:52] I have a beautiful home and a wonderful wife and loving kids and I've had certain amount of success in ministry but you know I can't take any of that stuff with me and that stuff doesn't save me nor is my identity rooted in that.

[00:06:08] My identity is rooted in who I am and God's eyes and who am I and God's eyes, more importantly who are you in God's eyes? You're a child of God, recipient of grace, head of heaven, everything else is secondary to that.

[00:06:26] So Jesus said the ultimate instructor is me and the ultimate instruction comes from me. Keep that in mind, have a wonderful day in the Lord Jesus Christ and that is today's daily truth. Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with Dave Olman.
