[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. What is God really like? Some people think that God is just judgmental, that he's angry, or that he's distant, or that he's limited, or heaven forbid that he
[00:00:24] doesn't even exist. But the question I have for you today is, what is God really like? If somebody came to you as a follower of Jesus and asked you, what's God really like? What would you say? How would you respond? And how do we know what God is really like? And you might be saying, well, of course we know, Pastor Dave. Nature tells us that. The Bible tells us that. You know, we see God in other people,
[00:00:51] blah, blah, blah. So we know that God exists based on those things. But let's dig a little bit deeper. How did the disciples know what Jesus was really like? In John chapter 17, Jesus is in the upper room with his disciples. He's explaining a lot of different things. Of course, the next day he's going to be crucified. That night he's going to be arrested and all of that. And this is what he says in his high
[00:01:17] priestly prayer to God, the father interceding for the disciples and for you and me. This is what he says in verse six. I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. He's talking about his disciples. He's talking to the father and he uses the word, listen to this, manifested. The word manifested means to make clear or plainly known what was previously hidden,
[00:01:46] obscure, obscure, or unseen. What this is basically saying is through the life and ministry of Jesus, the invisible qualities and character of God were revealed, were manifested to the disciples so that they could see and perceive what God is really like. I'm currently working at Saving Grace Lutheran Church as kind of a visitation pastor, pastor of congregational care. And so I'm getting in people's
[00:02:14] homes. I've seen a lot of people's homes. And it's always interesting when I pull up to the home, I wonder to myself, I wonder what this home is like on the inside. I see the outside, but what's this home really like on the inside? And then I go inside and oh my goodness, it's beautiful. They have ornate furniture, they have a beautiful couch, all this kind of stuff. So I have no idea what their house is really like on the inside until it's revealed to me when I walk in.
[00:02:40] Okay. So how do we know? How did the disciples know what God was really like? For the disciples, Jesus was like walking into the house and seeing what God is truly like. And how do we know what God is truly like? And obviously we know what God is truly like through the word. He's holy,
[00:03:04] he's just, he's all knowing, he's all powerful, he's all present, he's loving, he's merciful, he's kind, he's forgiving, and so much more. All of that, we know what God the father is like and so much more based on the word. So my point to you today is if you want to know what God is really like,
[00:03:30] if you have people around you who wonder and question what God is really like, we find out what he's really like through the word. Jesus revealed the character and nature of God the father through his ministry in life and through how he exhibited it in his ministry to other people, right? And so it is with us. We find out what God the father is really like through the word. So study the word,
[00:03:55] meditate upon the word, memorize the word, share the word with others because the deeper we get into the word, the deeper we understand the true nature of God the father. Amen? Amen. Let it be so and let it be done to the glory of God's holy and saving name. And that is today's Daily Truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
