[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Question for you today, what are you really thankful for? You might say my family or my job or my car or the material possessions that God's given me or the ability I have to live where I live and I'm thankful for my home, etc., etc. Man, especially as we said at the beginning here, we're really
[00:00:28] thankful for our families, right? We're thankful for our loved ones. But above and beyond all that, aren't you thankful for the salvation you have in Jesus Christ? As unworthy and unattainable as that is for us, unworthy as we are, unattainable as it is, aren't you thankful that God has given you salvation through faith in our Lord Jesus? In the
[00:00:58] High Priestly Prayer, in John chapter 17, Jesus says these words, I've manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. This is what we talk about today. Talk about that part yesterday. Yours they were. He's talking about the disciples. He's talking about the covenant relationship that they had with God the Father through faith in the coming Messiah. So he's saying, Yours they were and you
[00:01:25] gave them to me. In other words, you gave them to me as my followers, as my disciples, as yes, the apostles. You gave them to me and they listen to this and they have kept your word. Well, they kind of did. You think about it. That night, Judas betrayed Jesus. That very same night,
[00:01:51] Peter denied Jesus. That very same night, the other 10 disciples absolutely fled Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. But here's what Jesus was saying. By and large, they had a consistent willingness to obey the word of God. And so do we. But the problem is, like them, our lives are contaminated by sin.
[00:02:18] Sometimes we have good intentions. We want to do the right thing. We want to honor God. We want to please our Father. We want to obey His commandments. That's our intention. That's our desire. That's our will. But because that sinful, error-prone, sinful self clings to us, and sometimes the devil's temptations thwart us, we find ourselves falling. But in the middle of it all, Jesus Christ went to the
[00:02:46] cross the next day to die for those disciples who, He said, obey your word. But they didn't do it perfectly and neither do we. And yet Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross in order that we might still have this incredible, peace-giving, loving, forgiving relationship with God through faith in what Christ has done. So Jesus said, they have obeyed your word. And that's true. Their willingness, their desire,
[00:03:12] empowered by the Holy Spirit, was to obey the word of God. And so it is with us. We don't do it perfectly. Neither today. Thanks be to God for the salvation which is ours through faith in what Christ has done. So I started this little podcast today. What are you really thankful for? And we mentioned all kinds of things, family and friends and, you know, relationships and our job, our house,
[00:03:38] etc., etc., etc., the car we drive. But the thing I believe you're most thankful for more than anything else is your salvation, which is secure, which is identified through faith in our Lord Jesus. Thanks be to God, we're saved by faith in our Lord Jesus. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. And
