[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. In Matthew 26, remember Jesus comes to Simon the leper's home and it's in Bethany and we believe that Mary and Martha both must have been there and all of a sudden Mary gets out this very expensive nard in an alabaster jar and pours it on Jesus' head. And of course the disciples were just fine with it. No.
[00:00:30] They were indignant, they criticized and so forth. And then Jesus rebuked them. We pick up that further rebukement in Matthew 26, verse 12. And this is what Jesus said, in pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial.
[00:00:48] Obviously, Jesus knew he was going to die in just two or three days later, right? But also, so did Mary understand this. And so she gets this oil, pours it on his head to prepare him for his burial. How incredible is that? Now, why did she do this? And we talked about some of the reasons she loved the Lord, all that kind of stuff. But think about this. Think about what Mary had in her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. She understood that he was the Messiah.
[00:01:17] Remember, he had come to her house and she sat at his feet and listened to him teach. He was the one, Jesus was the one who raised her brother Lazarus from the dead. She had to be convinced that he wasn't just a rabbi, just a teacher, but was a son of God. And she loved the Lord Jesus.
[00:01:37] My friends, you can think about what Christ has done for you, how he saved and rescued and redeemed you through his precious blood, how he's anointed your head with the oil of gladness, making you a child of God and declaring you to be innocent in the sight of God through faith in what he's done.
[00:01:55] This is what Jesus has done. This is what Jesus has done and so much more. And as a result of that, what do we do? We want to do something for the Lord Jesus. So here's the thing. What can you do for the Lord Jesus today?
[00:02:08] Give maybe a person that you haven't seen in church, a phone call or visit a friend or reach out to your neighbor or tell someone about the Lord Jesus. What can you do today for the Lord Jesus to demonstrate your love and affection and devotion for him?
[00:02:25] Look at what Mary did. She was so incredibly touched by the love of the Lord Jesus and understanding that soon he was going to be, I don't know if she knew he was going to be nailed to the cross, but she understood he's going to die because of what's happening in our culture.
[00:02:40] The Romans hate Jesus. The religious leaders surely hate Jesus. There's talk about getting rid of him. And so she knew that his imminent crucifixion was coming.
[00:02:51] And so she said, I've got to do something for the Lord Jesus and I've got to do it today. My friends, may that be your attitude too. I've got to do something for the Lord Jesus and if possible, do it today. And that is today's daily truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
