[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hey everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. In Matthew 26, remember there was this woman,

[00:00:12] many scholars believe it was Mary in Bethany, who had an alabaster jar of pure nard, which is very

[00:00:19] expensive. It was maybe part of her family inheritance or whatever. And she used it.

[00:00:24] She saved the best for the Lord Jesus. She anointed his head with that oil like the anointed Messiah,

[00:00:31] right? That's who he is. That's who he still is. That's who he claimed to be. That's who he confessed

[00:00:36] him to be. So she anoints his head with oil as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, right?

[00:00:43] The disciples are indignant. They say this could have been used for the poor. And Jesus rebuked

[00:00:48] them by saying the poor you always have with you, but you're not always going to have me.

[00:00:52] And what she's done is a beautiful thing. She's preparing my body for burial, which would happen

[00:00:59] just two, three days later. Now listen to what it says after that. This is what Jesus told his

[00:01:05] disciples in verse 13. Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world,

[00:01:12] what she has done will also be told in memory of her. First of all, he talks about the gospel,

[00:01:19] this gospel. He says, what gospel? The gospel that we're saved by grace through faith in Jesus alone,

[00:01:26] that Christ Jesus came to this world to seek and to save those who are lost, that he lived the life we

[00:01:31] could never live, died on a cross to pay for our sins, triumphed over the grave through his

[00:01:35] resurrection. And through repentance and faith in Jesus, we're saved from sin and hell and death.

[00:01:40] We're saved to know that our sins are forgiven and we're going to heaven. This is the gospel.

[00:01:46] That's what Jesus was talking about. This gospel will be proclaimed throughout the whole world.

[00:01:52] And when it's proclaimed, people will remember what she's done. Now, what did she do? First of all,

[00:01:59] she first asked, she rendered service to the Lord Jesus Christ, right? She anointed his head with oil,

[00:02:06] preparing for his burial. Secondly, she sacrificed. This pure nard could have been used in her household.

[00:02:13] She could have sold it for a lot of money. She could have used it for her own purposes, but she

[00:02:18] sacrificed it for the Lord. And finally, she showed her devotion. Tremendous love for the Lord Jesus.

[00:02:26] What she was doing through this act was saying, I love you, Lord Jesus. Now, my friend, in response to

[00:02:35] the gospel, we do the same thing. We say, I want to serve you, Lord Jesus, using my gifts and talents in

[00:02:43] the church, in the community, wherever you've called me. I want to serve you, Lord Jesus, because my life

[00:02:49] belongs to you. Lord, let me be used by you in service to other people and in the process be serving you.

[00:02:57] So we dedicate our life to the Lord Jesus in response to the gospel through service, but also

[00:03:03] through sacrificial giving. Do you know what sacrificial giving is? It means that you take your

[00:03:08] resources, your money, and you would use it for your own purposes. You sacrifice your own purposes

[00:03:15] for the purpose of the kingdom. In other words, there's things that you may use your money for,

[00:03:20] maybe something you want to buy or a trip you want to take. And your sacrificial giving means,

[00:03:24] I'm going to take that money that I use for myself, for my own purposes, and give it to God. That's what

[00:03:30] sacrificial giving is. And finally, devotion through service and through sacrifice, we're saying to the

[00:03:37] Lord Jesus, I love you, Lord Jesus. This is what the woman did. This is what, if it indeed is true, this is

[00:03:47] what Mary did. Mary said, I love you, Lord. I'm going to serve you. I'm going to sacrifice my

[00:03:53] possession for your glory. And I'm going to show through this, through my service, through my sacrifice,

[00:04:00] that I love you, Jesus. We do the very same thing. Service, sacrifice, devotion is what we render to the

[00:04:22] daily truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
