What Are the Chances? | Matthew 26:54

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Today I want to talk about how to talk to other people who don't believe in the Lord Jesus and really don't believe in the accuracy and dependability of the scriptures.

[00:00:21] Because we run into people all the time who don't believe that the Bible is really the word of God, don't believe it's true, it's just filled with myths and fables and conjecture and legends, and really is not from God.

[00:00:34] If there is a God, it's really not from God, and it really isn't God's final authority for life, salvation, and the rest.

[00:00:41] So can you be sure that what you read in the scriptures is true? Can you be sure that you're saved by faith in Jesus Christ alone?

[00:00:52] We're in the book of Matthew chapter 26, and in this chapter, remember they're in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus is ready to be apprehended, and Peter wants to take things into his own hands,

[00:01:03] and so he cuts off Malchus' the high priest's servant's ear, and Jesus puts it back on, and then Jesus says, put your sword away.

[00:01:11] If you take up the sword, you're going to perish by the sword, and he says, don't you think that I have 72,000 angels that the Father could give me if I really needed help?

[00:01:20] And then he says this, listen to this, this is verse 53, do you not think that I cannot appeal to my Father and will at once send me more than 12 legions of angels?

[00:01:29] Verse 54, but then how should the scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?

[00:01:37] The scriptures regarding what? Regarding the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:01:43] Look at these scriptures talked about in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the life of Christ in the New Testament and referred to in the Gospels.

[00:01:52] Look at all these things, and also in the epistles, look at all these things that Jesus did to fulfill those Old Testament prophecies.

[00:02:01] There's over 20 prophecies that simply talk about his suffering and death that were fulfilled through Jesus' suffering and death on the cross.

[00:02:09] Now, what are the chances of that being true?

[00:02:12] What are the chances of all those prophecies, just the suffering and death of Christ, being fulfilled?

[00:02:18] I think of the movie Dumb and Dumber.

[00:02:20] I think his name was Lloyd, came up to this gorgeous girl, and he really wanted her to be like his maid, right?

[00:02:28] He wanted to get married. He wanted to get married to her.

[00:02:30] And so he says, he looks at her and he says, what are the chances of a guy like me and a girl like you, you know, ending up together?

[00:02:41] And she said, the chances are not good.

[00:02:45] And he goes, oh, like one in a hundred?

[00:02:49] And she goes, no, more like one in a million.

[00:02:53] And then he said, so you're saying I still got a chance.

[00:03:00] Okay, so what are the chances of all those prophecies that I showed you before coming true in the suffering and death of Jesus?

[00:03:07] One in a million?

[00:03:09] No, more like one in a billion.

[00:03:12] So my folks, listen to this.

[00:03:15] Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, and that was predicted.

[00:03:19] He performed miracles, and that was predicted.

[00:03:22] He suffered and bled and died on a cross, and that was predicted.

[00:03:26] He rose again from the dead, according to Psalm 16, verse 10.

[00:03:30] And that was predicted.

[00:03:32] Listen, folks, all those things were predicted about the life of Christ, and he fulfilled them.

[00:03:37] So here's the thing.

[00:03:38] You can be sure.

[00:03:40] The chances are one in a billion that those things had come true in one person.

[00:03:44] It's not like we hit the cosmic jackpot through Jesus Christ.

[00:03:48] He knew exactly what needed to happen.

[00:03:51] He said, I'm having this happen.

[00:03:53] I'm going to the cross.

[00:03:54] You can try to defend me.

[00:03:55] I can have 72,000 angels protect me, but I've got to go to the cross to fulfill the scriptures.

[00:04:01] And so, my friends, if you repent and put your trust in Jesus, you can be absolutely certain that you're at peace with God, your sins are forgiven, and when you die, you're going to go to heaven.

[00:04:14] Why?

[00:04:14] Because the scriptures are fulfilled.

[00:04:17] And what Jesus says is true.

[00:04:19] The Bible is not based on conjecture, myth, legend, or fable.

[00:04:24] It is God's solid promises to us.

[00:04:28] And the greatest promise is all those who put their trust in Jesus will have eternal life.

[00:04:34] My friend, put your trust in Jesus, and you will have eternal life.

[00:04:40] And what are the chances of that?

[00:04:42] The chances are fully fulfilled because what Christ has done for you.

[00:04:48] And he did everything he needed to do to save you from sin and hell and death.

[00:04:55] And you're saved.

[00:04:56] So, can you be sure?

[00:04:58] Can you be sure the Bible's true?

[00:05:00] Can you be sure of eternal life?

[00:05:02] Can you be sure of eternal salvation?

[00:05:04] Yes, absolutely.

[00:05:06] Absolutely.

[00:05:06] Because Jesus fulfilled the scriptures.

[00:05:10] And that is today's Daily Truth.
