[00:00:00] We'll Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. And not from my own heart and my own reasoning. Here's what it says in Matthew chapter 19 verse 3, And Pharisees came up to Jesus and tested him by asking, Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?
[00:00:45] Well there were a couple teachings back then that you could divorce your wife for any cause. As a matter of fact, a rabbi by the name of Haleel was teaching people, Hey, if she burns the toast, go ahead and divorce her.
[00:00:58] If sure, if your hair doesn't look very good, go ahead and divorce her. If she didn't get all my time from going to the store, Go ahead and divorce her. It's perfectly fine if there's character flaws in her,
[00:01:08] Go ahead and get it a divorce. On the other hand, There was a rabbi by the name of Shemai who taught people the only reason you can divorce your wife is if there's marital infidelity. Now, if third thing comes into play here as well,
[00:01:21] there was also a teaching about a dowry and a dowry was something that a woman would receive from her parents when she was married. It was either property or possessions or it could be
[00:01:32] money itself. And so that was part of the marriage when they came together in marriage. However, if they got a divorce, she would retain the dowry unless The husband could prove that she had been unfaithful. And even if she hadn't been unfaithful,
[00:01:48] but he accused her of that, then he could keep part of his dowry. All this was coming into play when the Pharisees asked Jesus' question. Now, a lot of times today, people say,
[00:02:00] why I'm going to go ahead and get married? But if it doesn't work out, we can always go ahead and get a divorce. Marriage should never be entered into with that kind of attitude. As a matter
[00:02:11] fact, I tell people in the marriage ceremony itself, marriage is not to be entered into inedivisedly, but it visely soberly, reverely, and in the fear of God. So here's a thing, if you have kids or grandkids that are thinking about getting married, tell them this,
[00:02:31] that marriage is a lifelong union. And I emphasize the word lifelong. It is a lifelong union between a man and a woman, not a man and a man or a woman or a woman, a lifelong union between
[00:02:45] man and a woman, and nothing could separate it. Now, you might be saying, well, what if a person is unfaithful? Ultimately, we pray that forgiveness would permeate, that forgiveness would rain, that those people would be able to work it out and still retain that marriage. Now, I'm going
[00:03:03] to be talking about this much more in depth in the days ahead. So listen up for that. For today, we know that marriage is a gift of God, and if you're married, stay married. If you're divorced,
[00:03:17] there's forgiveness for all our sins, including that. Jesus went to the cross and died for sin and died for sinners. He died for every sin of our life, including divorce. And as you look back
[00:03:29] over your life, and you got it, divorce, if that's what happened in your case, you can bring that before God, know that God forgives you for the sake of Jesus and gives you the power of the Holy
[00:03:41] Spirit to amend your sinful life and to walk in obedience and humility before Him. Yep, not an easy lesson today, but I've shared with you, but I have made a dedication to the
[00:03:54] Lord that I'm going to teach the Word of God, verse by verse in its truth and purity, have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that is today's daily truth.
