[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily, This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman

[00:00:08] Hi everybody. I want to talk today about how you know the Bible is true. Now I know there's many different reasons

[00:00:14] that one could give as to why the Bible is true and why we believe it's true.

[00:00:18] But I'm going to give you three different reasons today why the Bible is true.

[00:00:22] And to do that, we pick up the story where Jesus is coming into Jerusalem.

[00:00:26] Remember he was in Jericho. Jericho is about 20 miles northeast of Jerusalem.

[00:00:30] Remember he heals a couple guys of their eyesight. They can't see and he gives them eyesight.

[00:00:35] And now a whole crowd of people, including those two guys are following Jesus into Jerusalem.

[00:00:41] They come to this town by the name of Bethany, which is two miles east of Jerusalem.

[00:00:47] Then they come to a little village by the name of Bethlehem, which is where the Mount of Olives is.

[00:00:53] And we pick up the story. Now when they drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethlehem,

[00:00:57] that's where I said they were, to the Mount of Olives.

[00:01:00] So Bethlehem was a very small village in the Mount of Olives.

[00:01:04] Then Jesus sent two disciples saying to them,

[00:01:07] Go into the village in front of you. In other words,

[00:01:11] Bethlehem, they're right there in front of Bethlehem.

[00:01:13] Go into the village in front of you and immediately you'll find a donkey tied and a colt with her.

[00:01:20] Untie them and bring them to me.

[00:01:23] What?

[00:01:25] So how did Jesus know that?

[00:01:28] Did he kind of scope it out like before the sun came up to see that there was a colt?

[00:01:33] Did he go in there and ask the guy if he could have this colt in the fold of the donkey?

[00:01:37] All that, did he do that? No. Well, how did he know?

[00:01:41] Because he's God, right?

[00:01:44] So what's this? This is Palm Sunday, right?

[00:01:47] This is when he comes riding triumphantly into Jerusalem,

[00:01:50] not on a stallion, which is what kings usually did, but rather on a donkey.

[00:01:54] So he comes into this town riding on a donkey.

[00:01:58] How incredible that he had the prophetic ability to know indeed that there was going to be a donkey and a colt right there

[00:02:06] waiting for them to bring that colt and donkey back to Jesus.

[00:02:10] This indicates because Jesus has the power to see into the future

[00:02:15] and to know exactly what's going to happen.

[00:02:17] And he can see things before they happen.

[00:02:19] He knew the donkey would be there and the colt would be with it.

[00:02:22] He has a prophetic word and we've talked a lot about that in the past many episodes.

[00:02:27] So the prophetic word of Jesus was fulfilled.

[00:02:31] He says you're going to find a donkey there in a colt and it was there.

[00:02:34] This is one of the reasons we know the Bible is true because Jesus often predicted what was going to happen

[00:02:41] and it happened, right?

[00:02:43] Okay. So that's one of the reasons.

[00:02:45] Jesus' prophetic ability.

[00:02:47] But secondly, Zechariah chapter 9 says this.

[00:02:51] See your king comes to you riding on a donkey on a colt the full of a donkey.

[00:02:58] What's that?

[00:02:59] So this was written hundreds of years before that was fulfilled.

[00:03:03] There are over a hundred prophecies that are referred to in the New Testament

[00:03:07] that were predicted in the Old Testament, right?

[00:03:10] And in the four gospels it says this is in fulfillment of prophecy.

[00:03:14] This isn't even mentioned here that this was a fulfillment of prophecy until a couple verses later, right?

[00:03:20] And so here again is the prophetic word.

[00:03:23] Hundreds of years written by the prophet Zechariah saying the king is going to ride on a donkey on a colt

[00:03:29] the full of a donkey and that's exactly what happened.

[00:03:33] And thirdly, here's the third reason you can trust the word of God.

[00:03:36] It's written by reliable scholars.

[00:03:39] One of my favorite books is the book of Luke.

[00:03:42] And who was Luke?

[00:03:43] Kind of a fly-by-night salesman?

[00:03:45] Was he a used car salesman?

[00:03:47] No, he was a doctor.

[00:03:49] And as a matter of fact when you read the book of Luke at the beginning

[00:03:52] and you read the book of Acts at the beginning,

[00:03:54] he gives this long diatribe about how he wanted to make sure that what he was reporting was accurate.

[00:04:00] And so he talked to eyewitnesses and he put together the stories

[00:04:04] and he examined the evidence, all these different things

[00:04:08] so that he could hand down to people who would read in generations and centuries to follow

[00:04:13] so that he could hand down accurate things that people saw

[00:04:18] and he wanted to make sure he got it right.

[00:04:20] Why? Because he's a doctor and doctors are scientists.

[00:04:23] They don't guess, right?

[00:04:26] They want scientific evidence.

[00:04:28] So Luke who writes the book of Luke and the book of Acts says,

[00:04:31] I want to make sure I get this right.

[00:04:33] So he talked to countless people who could give testimonies

[00:04:36] and were eyewitnesses to the events of Jesus' life.

[00:04:39] So there you go.

[00:04:41] Jesus' prophetic word, fulfillment of prophecy

[00:04:44] and the integrity of the writers who wrote the New Testament.

[00:04:49] That's how you can know.

[00:04:50] There are three reasons how you can know that the Bible is true.

[00:04:53] So I would say to you, if you want to be comforted by the word of God,

[00:04:58] you can go to a lot of different books but go to the Psalms

[00:05:02] because that's written for the devotional life of God's people

[00:05:05] and know that what it says about God's presence

[00:05:08] and peace and pardon and love and comfort and strength is true

[00:05:13] because the Bible is true you guys

[00:05:16] and that's the problem with our culture today.

[00:05:19] We need to call this daily truths because we're surrounded by so many untruths

[00:05:23] in our culture today.

[00:05:25] We need the authentic, rock solid Biblical basis of God's word

[00:05:29] that tells us what's fair, what's foul, what's right, what's wrong,

[00:05:33] what's of God, what's not.

[00:05:35] The truth of God's word is like bedrock

[00:05:38] and you can build your life on it.

[00:05:40] And so I would pass this on to somebody who says,

[00:05:43] well I'm not sure the Bible is a word of God.

[00:05:45] Really the reason people don't believe in Jesus

[00:05:47] is they don't believe in the authenticity of the word of God.

[00:05:50] And once you believe in the authenticity of the word of God,

[00:05:53] everything else is gravy, right?

[00:05:55] Then things fall into place.

[00:05:57] Then you start to logically think,

[00:05:59] okay these guys saw the life, the death, the resurrection of Jesus.

[00:06:03] They lived to tell about it.

[00:06:04] 11 of the 12 disciples were willing to die for the faith

[00:06:07] because all these things happened and they were eyewitnesses to it.

[00:06:10] And so it has to be true guys.

[00:06:13] We know that. It has to be true.

[00:06:16] I had a devotion what, a couple of three weeks ago.

[00:06:19] If push came to shove and someone were holding us at gunpoint

[00:06:23] and said if you deny Christ you'll live.

[00:06:25] If you confess the name of Christ you'll die.

[00:06:27] Every one of us who are listening to my words I think would do that.

[00:06:31] We'd say yeah, as a matter of fact,

[00:06:33] I've been talking to my father-in-law

[00:06:35] and he had Spinal Menangitis

[00:06:38] and you know I said, Dad we almost lost you.

[00:06:41] And you know what he said?

[00:06:42] Well the alternative is pretty good too.

[00:06:45] Meaning if I would have died,

[00:06:47] I would have been with Jesus right?

[00:06:49] Who can say that?

[00:06:50] Only Christians can say that.

[00:06:52] Only you can say that.

[00:06:54] So when you open up the word of God, boom!

[00:06:57] Just know this is God speaking to me

[00:07:00] and this is truth.

[00:07:02] Sorry I went along, got a little wound up about this one

[00:07:06] but we're living in a day and age where people don't believe in God

[00:07:09] because they don't believe in the authenticity of God's word.

[00:07:13] Three points today why we believe it is.

[00:07:16] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ

[00:07:18] and that is today's Daily Truth.
