The Word of the Lord Endures Forever | Matthew 24:35

[00:00:07] Everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths.

[00:00:10] You sometimes find yourself saying something to someone that you can't fulfill, making

[00:00:15] a promise that you can't keep or telling a little white lie or even a blatant lie sometimes

[00:00:21] just to save face. You ever do that? No, I never do that. Are you kidding me? We

[00:00:29] are sinners. We're fallible. We're air prone. Sometimes we make promises that we can't keep.

[00:00:34] Sometimes we lie. We don't mean to, but out of weakness because that sinful flesh clings

[00:00:38] to all of us. Sometimes we find ourselves not fulfilling our Word and telling either untruths

[00:00:46] or half-truths. Listen to this text that describes our Lord Jesus and His Word.

[00:00:54] Listen to this. And remember that Jesus is the Word incarnate. So I have that in mind when we hear

[00:00:59] this in verse 35 of Matthew chapter 24, heaven and earth will pass away. Let me explain that

[00:01:06] real quickly. That means when Christ comes back, the heavens and the earth will be destroyed

[00:01:12] by fire. Second Peter tells us this, right? Okay. So when Christ comes back, the heavens,

[00:01:18] every heaven, the first, second and third heaven, and you're probably thinking, well,

[00:01:22] what's that mean? The first, second and third heaven. The two heavens will be destroyed where the

[00:01:27] birds fly and where the astronauts fly. The eternal heaven, the third heaven, that's when

[00:01:32] St. Paul said, I had a dream. I was caught up in the third heaven. That heaven will not

[00:01:37] be destroyed, but it says heavens here, heaven and earth. In other words, the sky and where

[00:01:43] the astronauts fly. And remember we talked about the stars falling and the moon quit shining

[00:01:48] and the sun is turned to darkness and all of that. When Christ comes back, the earth will be

[00:01:54] consumed by fire and the heavens will be consumed by fire except the eternal heaven

[00:02:00] that we're going to be with. So what's this saying? When Christ comes back, listen to this,

[00:02:05] heaven and earth will pass away. But listen to this, but my words will not pass away.

[00:02:13] Do you know what that tells us? I started this little podcast by saying you and I sometimes

[00:02:19] don't tell the truth. Sometimes we lie, sometimes we don't fulfill our promises.

[00:02:24] That's not Jesus. Jesus keeps his word. Either a word has already been fulfilled

[00:02:32] or a word that will be fulfilled. He always keeps his word. He never lies and he promises

[00:02:39] that he is going to return. We've talked a lot about that the last two weeks. If he says it,

[00:02:44] he will do it and that settles it because he's God and God cannot lie. He's perfect. Listen

[00:02:52] to me when I say this. The heavens, according to this, those two heavens will end. Empires

[00:02:59] will fade. Governments will disappear. Temples will be destroyed. Even the saints of God,

[00:03:07] even you and I are going to be laid to rest someday. But there's one thing that endures forever,

[00:03:14] Jesus Christ and his word. Listen to what the word says about you and me. All flesh is like grass

[00:03:23] and all its glory like the flower of the field. The grass withers and the flower fades,

[00:03:28] but the word of the Lord endures forever. Listen to this. Christ promised that he would forgive us

[00:03:38] and he does. Christ promised that we would have eternal life when we put our trust in him

[00:03:43] and he gives it. Christ promised that he would carry us in our weakest times and he does.

[00:03:50] Christ promised that when we're facing things that are so difficult,

[00:03:53] he would give us a strength to persevere and he fulfills that promise. He told us that when we

[00:04:00] take our last breath here, the next breath we take will be in the presence of God forever and he

[00:04:06] will lead us home. Why is that? The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of the Lord endures

[00:04:16] forever. Jesus Christ is trustworthy. He is reliable. He never breaks his promises and what he says

[00:04:27] he will deliver upon every promise he's made to you and you receive it by faith,

[00:04:33] he will fulfill. Why? Because he's God and we are not. We break promises, he never will.

[00:04:42] How cool is that? So trust in the word. I love this heaven and earth. Remember the two heavens

[00:04:52] where the astronauts fly, where the birds fly? Heaven and earth will pass away,

[00:04:58] but his word will never pass away. And remember, you're probably thinking, well,

[00:05:03] Pastor Dave, you said at the beginning of this podcast that the world is going to be destroyed

[00:05:07] or consumed by fire, then what? A new heaven and a new earth will be manufactured. This is what

[00:05:14] Peter tells us. A new heaven and a new earth will be established and will live with the Lord Jesus

[00:05:20] in that new heaven and new earth forever. Why? Because Jesus is coming back

[00:05:28] and Jesus never lies and Jesus keeps his promises. Remember when I talked about my son,

[00:05:36] my youngest son having a sermon when he was two years old? Here it is in Jesus,

[00:05:44] in Jesus, in Jesus. Who never has, never does and never will tell us an untruth.
