[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. The word given and the word give are pretty important words. And those two words are used interchangeably here in the first two verses of John chapter 17. And what a powerful verse this is. Jesus again is in the upper room.

[00:00:25] It's the night before he's crucified. And now he breaks into what we call the high priestly or intercessory prayer, where he prays for his followers, namely his disciples and also you and me some 2000 years later. And it starts like this in John chapter 17, verse one and two. When Jesus had spoken these words, the words he had spoken to his disciples,

[00:00:50] he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify your son that your son may glorify you. In other words, put a spotlight on what I'm about to do so that a spotlight might be designated towards you. And what was Jesus about ready to do? And you know what it is. He was ready to go to the cross. He was ready to conquer the grave.

[00:01:15] And so as a result of that, the spotlight, the glory, the honor, the radiance, the splendor would be manifested on Jesus and manifested on the father. And Jesus was saying, and of course, many times in the Bible, in the book of John, it said his time had not yet come. Now he says the time has come. It's time for me to be glorified. It's time for you to be glorified. Heavenly father.

[00:01:40] Then he says this, since you have given him authority over all flesh. In other words, you've given me mastery and dominion over all people. I'm the king of the universe, the power over all entities. I have that. And you've given me that authority over all people here on planet Earth. I love that. Since you've given him authority over all flesh.

[00:02:09] Listen to this to give eternal life. To give eternal life. Eternal life is not something we merit or earn or deserve. God gives eternal life to those who believe in Jesus. And as we've said many times in DT, even the gift of faith is a gift of God inspired by the Holy Spirit. So eternal life is given. It's granted through faith in what Christ has done.

[00:02:39] So I love what it says here. Since you have given him authority over all flesh to give eternal life. Listen to all whom you have given him. Wow. What's that mean? That the father draws us by the power of the Holy Spirit unto Jesus. And then we are granted eternal life as we put our trust in Jesus. So listen what it says here. You've given, Jesus says you've given him, namely Jesus, authority over all flesh.

[00:03:08] So that he can give. It's not earned or worked for or merited. So that he can give eternal life to all those you have given him. Wow. Three different uses of the word given or give. I love that. So pretty important word. The words given and give. And here's my question for you. Do you trust in Jesus? Do you believe in him? Do you have a faith relationship with God the father through Jesus? And we are glorifying.

[00:03:37] We are putting a spotlight on Jesus and on God the father. And that's where the glory goes. If anybody asks you, why do you believe in Jesus? You can say, because God has granted me faith in Jesus Christ. And all glory goes to him. So today, bow your head, bend your knee and thank God that you've been given the gift of faith.

[00:04:02] Thank God that your eyes of unbelief have been, you know, the blindness of unbelief has been removed so that you can perceive and see Jesus for who he really is. Right. And who is he?

[00:04:16] The sinless, stainless lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, the sinless, stainless lamb of God who takes away your sin, puts you right with God, gives you peace with God and opens up the gates of heaven to you and to all those who believe in Jesus. It's great to believe in Jesus.

[00:04:41] And I'm going to tell you a powerful story tomorrow about someone who was recently ushered into heaven because he had faith in Jesus. And when that happened and how it happened, it's astounding. It's incredible way to hear this story tomorrow. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. And that is today's Daily Truth.
