[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. What is the great attachment that we attach to every request we make of God?

[00:00:17] We're in the book of Matthew chapter 26. Remember Jesus has gone to the Garden of Gethsemane.

[00:00:22] He's taken with him Peter, James and John. He's asked them to stay awake, watch and pray with him.

[00:00:27] He goes off, he's filled with sorrow and he's filled with grief and he's very troubled.

[00:00:32] So much so that it says this in verse 39,

[00:00:35] And going a little farther, he fell on his face. Wow.

[00:00:40] He fell on his face and prayed saying,

[00:00:42] My father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me, nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.

[00:00:50] What was he talking about? The cup of suffering.

[00:00:53] The experience of going through what he was about to go through, going to the cross.

[00:00:57] He was saying, if there's another method, another mode for me to save, redeem and rescue sinful and lost mankind,

[00:01:05] let it be so and let it be done.

[00:01:07] But father, I'm not trying to dictate to you what to do or how to do it.

[00:01:11] I leave it up to you. Your will be done.

[00:01:16] Your will be done.

[00:01:17] That is the great attachment to every request we ever make of God.

[00:01:23] But there's an asterisk to that point.

[00:01:25] I'll get to that here in just a minute.

[00:01:27] So when we're talking about material things, relational things, financial things, physical things with our bodies,

[00:01:34] when we're asking God to do certain things in our lives, we need to attach this to it.

[00:01:39] Lord, if it be your will.

[00:01:42] Now you're probably thinking, is there ever a time when we shouldn't say, if it be your will?

[00:01:47] Yes.

[00:01:47] Regarding spiritual blessings.

[00:01:49] It is God's will that you be at peace with him.

[00:01:52] It is God's will that you have your sins forgiven.

[00:01:56] It is God's will that you come to faith in Jesus and appropriate the merits of Christ whereby you have eternal life.

[00:02:03] This is God's will.

[00:02:04] So when it comes to spiritual blessings, we don't have to say, God, give me your peace.

[00:02:08] Give me your pardon.

[00:02:09] Give me eternal life.

[00:02:10] If it be your will, obviously it's his will.

[00:02:13] God wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

[00:02:17] So God's will in your life is that every good spiritual gift he wants you to have.

[00:02:23] So there's no need to attach.

[00:02:25] If it be your will.

[00:02:26] Now let's talk about when you do use that attachment.

[00:02:30] If it be your will.

[00:02:32] Let's say you're facing something physically with your body and it's really bothering you.

[00:02:37] Lord, if it be your will, take this away from me.

[00:02:41] Let's say you're facing something financially in your life.

[00:02:44] Your finances are not what you want them to be.

[00:02:47] Lord, if it be your will, help me out financially.

[00:02:50] Let's say there's some material thing that you want, whatever it is, maybe a new car, maybe transitioning to a new job or possibly a different house or whatever.

[00:02:59] Lord, if it be your will, open the door for this to happen.

[00:03:02] Maybe there's something relationally that's happening in your life that's not good.

[00:03:07] And you want that relationship fixed.

[00:03:09] Lord, if it be your will, let this relationship be solidified.

[00:03:12] So here's the thing.

[00:03:15] When it comes to any kind of physical, material, financial, relational blessing, we ask if it be your will.

[00:03:23] But when it comes to spiritual blessings, we say, Lord, thank you for these spiritual blessings that you've given me through faith in your son.

[00:03:33] So think about that.

[00:03:35] Think about how many times you ask God to do stuff in your life.

[00:03:38] Have you attached that great attachment?

[00:03:41] Lord, if it be your will.

[00:03:42] I think we need to get in the habit and practice of saying that consistently in life when we bring our requests to God.

[00:03:50] Now, here's the marvelous thing.

[00:03:52] So many times and you can document this so many times when we ask God to do stuff in our lives.

[00:03:57] So many times he says, yes.

[00:03:59] Have you ever documented how many times he says yes to your requests?

[00:04:03] And now you can say, Lord, if it be your will, if it's what is best for me.

[00:04:07] And that's the thing.

[00:04:08] A lot of times we look at things and we say, well, you know what?

[00:04:11] I think I know what's best.

[00:04:13] But our heavenly father, there used to be a show by that.

[00:04:16] But our heavenly father knows what is best.

[00:04:18] Father knows best.

[00:04:19] Right.

[00:04:20] And so if we call upon him regarding these things, we leave it up to him.

[00:04:24] We say, God, if it be your will.

[00:04:26] So in the future, when you ask God to do certain things in your life, apart from spiritual blessings, always attach that statement.

[00:04:34] If it be your will.

[00:04:36] If it was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for us.

[00:04:40] And that is today's Daily Truth.

[00:04:42] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
