[00:00:00] We'll Truths Daily This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Have you ever noticed how much we cling to material things, especially in this culture?
[00:00:13] I mean it seems like people are elevating material things more and more and more, whether it's cars or houses Or position or fame or status or success or all these things that the world says, the world says is so important
[00:00:30] Even church buildings we sometimes can become so focused and fixed on that that we forget what the building is therefore I think of what's happening right now in Dallas as I'm making this video
[00:00:45] There's a horrible fire that's happening in Dallas and one of the larger churches in the Dallas area It's probably going to burn to the ground and I'm thinking about the people that are witnessing that that are members of that church
[00:00:56] I wonder what their perspective is, I wonder what their heart is feeling right now Hmm I remember at Peace Lutheran Church we were in our old sanctuary at this very last Sunday in that sanctuary
[00:01:10] We were going into the next century that we had just built it was going to be dedicated the next week And I pointed out at the baptismal font that some of the kids or they're that they had been baptized that font
[00:01:22] Many of us had knelt at the altar that some of the folks there had been committed to marriage to another person at that altar
[00:01:30] And I talked all about that and I said we're going to miss this we're going to miss all this, but this is not the church And this is all going to be left behind
[00:01:39] And then I said someday the church we're moving into the sanctuary that we're moving into, someday will be destroyed and left behind Matthew chapter 24 verses one and two
[00:01:52] Talks about this Jesus left the temple and was going away when his disciples came to point out them the buildings of the temple In other words they were really amazed and mesmerized by a beautiful and it was in the architecture was great
[00:02:05] And he exquisite gold and all that kind of stuff Listen to what Jesus said, but he answered them you see all these do you not truly I say to you
[00:02:14] There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down. What was he talking about? Obviously 40 years later the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem because of people's disobedience
[00:02:27] God had left the building already Jesus said that just a couple days ago in our devotion God had left the building already because of people were bowing down to false gods it didn't acknowledge Jesus as Messiah And Jesus said basically the building is going to be gone
[00:02:43] So sometimes we just worship and bow down to an acknowledge honor all the things in this world that the world says is so important But really all is perishing listen to this the church is not a building the church is people
[00:03:03] Gathered around word and sacrament and a building is just a facility whereby we worship But you can worship in a tent you can worship in a field. I just was at a church just recently
[00:03:15] For my wise classical conversations convention and they're meeting in a church and one of the ladies who's a member of that church said for 15 years we worshiped in a tent So my friends don't cling to closely
[00:03:29] To material things I think what Cory ten-boons said she said I've learned a hang on to things loosely because it hurts too much when God rips them through my finger And through my fingers Wow So think about that Think about what's really important in your life
[00:03:47] God people and everything else is secondary to that even the temple The mass of magnificent marvelous unparalleled temple and Jerusalem It ended it was tore down it died if you will But people go on people are eternal
[00:04:07] Whether it's in heaven or in hell people are eternal and the one thing that really matters is our relationship with Jesus Remember when Jesus came to Bethany and he visited Mary and Martha and Mary was so busy listening to Jesus
[00:04:21] And Martha was so preoccupied with making all these preparations and remember what Jesus said to Martha Martha Martha you worried upset about so many things but Mary is chosen the better part
[00:04:32] Which will not be taken away from her what was that to listen to the words of Jesus And my friends we can do that in a building we can do that in a tent We can do that in a home We can do that in a field
[00:04:45] What really matters is God and people and everything else is secondary to that have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ And that is today's daily truth Thank you for tuning in to daily truths with Dave Olman
