The Byproduct of Unforgiveness | Matthew 18:35

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman. If that's the case, what if that's what's happening? Then what? We're in the story of the unmerciful servant. We've been talking about this the last few days and just recapped

[00:00:44] The servant had a multi-million dollar debt with the king or the master for gave it. There was a fellow servant who owed him 20 dollars. He wouldn't forgive the debt. Others found out about it. They told the master they told the king that king said,

[00:00:59] I'm going to throw you into prison until you can pay it all back, which mad basically a life sentence. Now, Jesus applies, listen to this, applies it to us and remember he's talking to the disciples here.

[00:01:12] It's just Jesus and the disciples and he says this word in verse 35. So also my Heavenly Father will do to every one of you if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.

[00:01:27] Basically, saying, if you aren't willing to forgive, there is no salvation for you because you haven't tapped into the love and the power of forgiveness in Christ Jesus and allowed that to spill into your life so that you can convey forgiveness to other people.

[00:01:45] Paul Crescent says that this way, these are pretty straightforward words. Any man, therefore, that is unmerciful, heart-hearted, unforgiving toward his fellow man. Thereby denies and repudiates God's grace and mercy. His former debt is again charged to his account.

[00:02:04] The just anger of God will deliver him into a merciless judgment from which there is no salvation, no delivery. Now, you might be thankful Pastor Dave, are you saying, no, I'm not saying, is God saying is Jesus saying that if we don't forgive,

[00:02:22] there's no salvation for us? Listen to me now. Our forgiveness towards others is not the way we earn our salvation with God. We can't earn our salvation with God. Jesus paid it all when he went to the cross and died and then rose again,

[00:02:36] and God's grace and mercy and forgiveness through faith in what Christ has done is bestowed upon us. However, that impels us as we said yesterday to forgive others no matter how difficult it is.

[00:02:49] And sometimes that takes time. I think of a conversation that a lady told me recently of her mother who was so angry at someone in her life

[00:02:59] and she continued to say, I choose to forgive, I choose to forgive, I choose to forgive, but really she hadn't because she was bitter, she was angry, she was anxious, she was depressed. This is what an unforgiving spirit does to people, all those different things and more

[00:03:17] and finally your son told her, Mom, you can't just say I choose to forgive him, you have to forgive. It's like this light bulb went on and she said, oh yeah, I guess I haven't forgiven, I say I choose to forgive him, but I really haven't.

[00:03:36] So then she did and the anxiousness, the depression, the worry, the frat, the anxiety, the loneliness, the loneliness all disappeared and she became the person that God wanted her and made her to be. This is the power of forgiveness.

[00:03:55] Now, my friend, I encourage you if there's someone in your life and I said this yesterday, if there's someone in your life that you have not forgiven, you've heard the word of God today

[00:04:06] that's dangerous territory. If there is someone in your life that you have not forgiven for give them, for give them and do it today. And that is today's Daily Truth. I have a great day in Jesus Christ. See you next Daily Truth.
