Matthew 26:36 - Jesus brought three close friends to comfort Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. He needed companionship during a horrific time. We need close friends too! Where is the best place to find them? Listen to find out!

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Truths. I have a question for you this morning. Where is the best place to find a good friend or a mate for a lifetime?
[00:00:19] Some of you might say, well, it's in a bar or it's at work or it's in my neighborhood or at the workout facility.
[00:00:26] Well, think about this. They probably won't have the biblical worldview that you have. They may not have the same moral standard.
[00:00:34] They may not have the same political perspective that you have. They probably won't be believers.
[00:00:41] And as a result of that, you're going to be set up for a lot of conflict, right? If that's where you choose to find a lifelong mate or a good friend.
[00:00:50] We're in Matthew 26. Listen to this. This is verse 36 and this is what it says.
[00:00:57] Then Jesus went with them, namely Peter, James, and John, to a place called Gethsemane.
[00:01:03] It means the place of olives. There were a lot of olive trees there. And he said to his disciples, Peter, James, and John,
[00:01:09] sit here while I go over there and pray. Hmm. Why did he choose to bring these three guys?
[00:01:17] Why did he choose to bring like some of Matthew's friends or maybe some soldiers or maybe some people that he had met in Bethany?
[00:01:23] Why did he choose to bring these three guys? Well, you might be saying, well, they were his closest disciples.
[00:01:30] They were his best friends. Well, for sure we can say that. But I think it goes even deeper than that.
[00:01:36] These guys had the same moral standard, the same biblical worldview, the same, even some would argue the same political perspective.
[00:01:46] They were believers and they believed in his mission and they were his close friends.
[00:01:51] And yes, they had all these things in common and Jesus knew that. So during his highest desperation, his greatest need, his, his most fierce, difficult time in his life, he chose to bring these three guys with him.
[00:02:07] Why? Because they were his closest friends. Yes. But they had the same views on life.
[00:02:15] They had so much in common and he wanted them during his time of fierce desperation. He wanted them to be with him.
[00:02:24] So I think about that. I got a dog by the name of Dash and oftentimes not today for whatever reason, but oftentimes when I'm doing a DT, he follows me.
[00:02:33] As a matter of fact, he follows me everywhere I go. When I go into the restroom, he's there. When I take a shower, he's there. When I go in the basement, work out. He's there.
[00:02:43] Why? He wants to be around the master all the time. Now, my friends, we can't be around the master Jesus in a face to face physical way. Right.
[00:02:54] We wish we could. And we're going to have that someday when we have a face to face encounter with the living Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:02:59] Won't that be awesome? But until then, we can't have the same physical experience that my dog has with me. Right.
[00:03:06] Right. And so we want to be close to the master and the best way to be close to the master, our heavenly father and Jesus himself is to be with their kids. Right.
[00:03:16] Those who are followers of Jesus. We have some great friends of ours at Mount Hope Church.
[00:03:21] And I want to say before I talk about them, I want to I want to tell you, you probably have as your best friends, people that are in your church.
[00:03:30] Why is that? Because you have the same biblical worldview, same moral standard, same political, political perspective and those kinds of things. Right.
[00:03:38] And so that's where your friends are at Mount Hope Church.
[00:03:41] I can say that the folks that are closest to one another have chosen to make those people at the church their friends.
[00:03:50] So to answer the question that I started with here just a few minutes ago, where is the best place to connect with good friends or to find a lifetime mate?
[00:04:01] It's not at a bar is not in the community. It's probably not at the workout facility.
[00:04:07] It's probably not in your neighborhood. But the best place to choose a lifelong friend and a mate or a mate is at the church.
[00:04:18] Right. It was good enough for Jesus. It's good enough for us.
[00:04:23] And that is today's daily truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
