[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. We're in Matthew 26, verses 20-22.
[00:00:12] When it was evening, he reclined a table with the twelve. We talked about that already.
[00:00:16] And as they were eating, he said, Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.
[00:00:21] And they were very sorrowful and began to say to one another, to him, Is it I, Lord?
[00:00:29] Now, it didn't come as a surprise that Jesus was going to die soon.
[00:00:32] But it was a complete surprise and they were incredibly sorrowful that one of them, amongst them, would betray him.
[00:00:40] And of course, they all wanted to clear their name, so they said, It isn't I, Lord, is it? It's not me.
[00:00:45] And I think the fact that it was Judas was kind of a surprise because after all, they trusted him with their treasury.
[00:00:52] So how in the world would he do it? It wasn't obvious to them at all.
[00:00:56] Hmm. You know what? You and I betrayed Jesus too.
[00:01:00] We betrayed Jesus through our sin.
[00:01:02] We betrayed Jesus every time we don't keep God number one in our life.
[00:01:06] We betrayed Jesus when we take his name in vain.
[00:01:08] We betrayed Jesus when we don't honor the Sabbath, when we don't respect authority,
[00:01:13] when we harbor hatred towards someone else.
[00:01:15] We betrayed Jesus when we have impure thoughts or carry out impure acts against the sixth commandment.
[00:01:22] We betrayed Jesus when we harbor hatred towards someone else, as I said before.
[00:01:27] Or we try to steal something that belongs to somebody else.
[00:01:31] We betrayed Jesus when we put others down, whether it's to their face or behind their back and bear false witness against them.
[00:01:37] We betrayed Jesus when we have a sinful covetousness of other people's possessions.
[00:01:43] We betrayed Jesus all the time.
[00:01:46] Listen to this.
[00:01:47] Judas was responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus through his betrayal.
[00:01:52] We're responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus through our sin.
[00:01:56] And we have to come back to Jesus and say,
[00:01:59] Is it I, Lord?
[00:02:00] Is it I that sinned against you?
[00:02:01] Is it I that through my sin have betrayed you?
[00:02:04] And do you know what Jesus says?
[00:02:07] Yes, it is.
[00:02:09] But here's a marvelous thing Jesus does for us.
[00:02:13] He gathers up our sin.
[00:02:15] He makes it his own.
[00:02:17] He goes to the cross and pays the ultimate price for our sin,
[00:02:22] his suffering, bleeding, and death on that cross.
[00:02:25] And so he says, Yes, it is you.
[00:02:27] But here's the good news.
[00:02:29] I've died for that.
[00:02:30] I paid the penalty for that.
[00:02:32] I took your place on Calvary's cross to pay for those wrongs.
[00:02:36] You say, Is it I that's betrayed you, Lord Jesus, through your sin?
[00:02:40] And I say, Yes, it is.
[00:02:43] But here's the thing.
[00:02:45] I love you.
[00:02:47] I died for you.
[00:02:48] And God the Father forgives you for the sake of what I've done.
[00:02:53] My friends, we betray Jesus all the time.
[00:02:55] I mean, how many times down through the years have we done something that was,
[00:02:59] you know, horrible and despicable and something really sinful?
[00:03:02] And somebody might have said to us,
[00:03:04] And you call yourself a Christian?
[00:03:05] Well, we call ourselves Christians, but that does not mean that we're sinless.
[00:03:10] Many times we've betrayed Jesus through our sin.
[00:03:13] But thanks be to God, he went to the cross and he died for our sins to take them away
[00:03:18] so that we're in a right relationship with God,
[00:03:20] declared innocent in the sight of God, sins forgiven, headed to heaven.
[00:03:24] You probably say, Well, Pastor Dave, you talk about the gospel a lot.
[00:03:28] Do you know why?
[00:03:29] Do you know why that is?
[00:03:30] Because this book, I got a new Bible, by the way.
[00:03:34] This book is all about the gospel.
[00:03:36] It's all about what Jesus did to set us free from sin and hell and death.
[00:03:40] And I love proclaiming freedom for the captives,
[00:03:46] liberation for those who have been enslaved by sin,
[00:03:49] because we're set free from the guilt, power and punishment of sin all because of Jesus.
[00:03:55] So we say, It is I who have betrayed you, Lord Jesus, through my sin.
[00:03:59] And Jesus says, Yep, it's you.
[00:04:02] But I died for it and your sins are gone.
[00:04:05] Oof.
[00:04:06] What great news that is.
[00:04:07] I hope that comforts you today.
[00:04:09] And yeah, as we walk through this New Testament,
[00:04:12] as we walk through these stories about our Lord Jesus,
[00:04:15] his betrayal,
[00:04:16] Peter's denial,
[00:04:17] the trial before Caiaphas,
[00:04:19] and the Pharisees and Sadducees,
[00:04:21] and of course, before Pilot and all that,
[00:04:23] we have some great stuff coming up.
[00:04:25] And I'm going to try to make life application for every one of them.
[00:04:28] You might be wondering too,
[00:04:30] Pastor Dave, where in the world are you?
[00:04:32] Well, we're down here in Arizona.
[00:04:33] We're visiting our kids.
[00:04:35] We brought our camper down here.
[00:04:36] We're going to take some of our grandkids camping here in a few days.
[00:04:39] And for right now, we're living in this because,
[00:04:41] you know, it's our own and we love it.
[00:04:44] So yeah.
[00:04:44] So that's where I'm at.
[00:04:45] That's why you see my background.
[00:04:48] It's a pop-up camper.
[00:04:50] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
[00:04:53] And that is today's Daily Truth.
