"Nothing is Going to Stop Me!" | Matthew 26:51-52

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Matthew 26, verses 51-52 says this,

[00:00:15] And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.

[00:00:23] Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back into its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

[00:00:31] What's the scenario? What's the context here? Well, obviously Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples.

[00:00:37] He's ready to be apprehended. Peter gets out his sword and cuts off the high priest's servant's name, a guy by the name of Malchus, according to the book of John.

[00:00:46] He cuts off his ear. He was being loyal to Jesus and showing that he's going to do whatever it takes to protect Jesus.

[00:00:55] So he cuts off his ear. And what does Jesus do? This is incredible stuff.

[00:00:59] He looks around, sees the ear on the ground, takes it and puts it back on the guy's head, and it's totally healed.

[00:01:06] This is the last miracle of Jesus before he goes to the cross, right?

[00:01:11] And then he looks at Peter and says, Put your sword away. Those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.

[00:01:17] He was basically quoting a proverb from that day.

[00:01:21] Now, what can we say about all this?

[00:01:23] Jesus was basically saying, Let them arrest me. They can take me away.

[00:01:28] Nothing is going to stop me from accomplishing God's mission for my life.

[00:01:34] Did you hear that? Nothing is going to stop me.

[00:01:37] My friends, nothing is going to stop Jesus from comforting you when you're grieving and you're hurting.

[00:01:44] Nothing is going to stop Jesus from giving you strength when you are weak.

[00:01:48] Nothing is going to stop Jesus to forgive your sins when you sin.

[00:01:52] Nothing is going to stop Jesus from giving you eternal life when you're facing death.

[00:01:57] Nothing is going to stop our Lord and Savior Jesus to do what he can do.

[00:02:02] Only he can do when you need it.

[00:02:05] As a matter of fact, St. Paul says that very thing in Romans chapter 8.

[00:02:09] He says, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

[00:02:12] Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?

[00:02:17] Knowing all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

[00:02:21] For I'm convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor things present nor powers nor height nor depth nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

[00:02:33] St. Paul there is saying no matter what comes your way, no matter what you face, no matter how much you sin, no matter how many troubles you go through and struggles you go through and challenges you go through.

[00:02:45] You have an inseparable bond with God through faith in Jesus Christ that the gates of hell cannot prevail against.

[00:02:53] Nothing is going to stop Jesus from loving you, from forgiving you, from comforting you, from blessing you and giving you eternal life.

[00:03:03] This is the great comfort of God in the face of every adversity we go through in life.

[00:03:09] Nothing is going to stop him.

[00:03:14] And this story shows, hey, Jesus resolutely set his eyes on the cross and even Peter coming to his defense and cutting off Malchus's ear and tried to say, hey, I'm going to defend you.

[00:03:26] I'm loyal to you.

[00:03:27] I'm not going to let this happen.

[00:03:29] Jesus basically was saying, put your sword away.

[00:03:31] I got to go to the cross.

[00:03:33] Nothing is going to stop me.

[00:03:35] My friends, Jesus says the very same thing to you.

[00:03:38] Nothing is going to stop me from being by your side, loving, forgiving and comforting you in the midst of whatever you go through.

[00:03:48] And nothing is going to stop me.

[00:03:51] And that is today's Daily Truth.
