[00:00:00] Real Truths Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.
[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Obviously we're talking about end time theology
[00:00:11] and in Matthew chapter 24 Jesus goes off on end time theology. As a matter of fact we've
[00:00:16] already said this is the doctrinal seat, the primary position of what we believe about
[00:00:21] the second coming of Christ. And to pick it up in verse 36 this is what Jesus is.
[00:00:27] Concerning that day and hour, no one knows. There have been a lot of people who tried to
[00:00:35] predict the day and the hour that Jesus is coming back. I remember when I talked to my
[00:00:39] brother who was a good Lutheran but then went off to the Pentecostal movement and he was
[00:00:45] just entrenched in end time theology. And he told me, you know Dave we know basically
[00:00:51] when Christ is coming back. He's going to come back in 1985 or whatever it was
[00:00:55] back then. And I said, I quoted this verse, I said Al the Bible says of that day and that
[00:01:00] hour knows no man. He said I know the day and the hour we're not supposed to know but
[00:01:05] we can know the month and the year. What's Jesus saying in all this? He doesn't want
[00:01:11] us to know when he's coming back right? Now listen to what it says here in verse 36
[00:01:17] with concerning that day and hour no one knows not even the angels of heaven nor
[00:01:23] the Son but the Father only. At that time listen to this because Jesus was in the
[00:01:29] state of humiliation which meant he had all the power of God within his possession
[00:01:34] as a human being as both God and man but he chose not always to use the power
[00:01:38] the at is God and so under the state of humiliation he didn't know he didn't
[00:01:44] try to use the power at his God to predict when the end times are coming.
[00:01:48] Now he's in the state of exaltation, he's been raised from the dead and
[00:01:51] is centered up in heaven. Does he know now? Well yeah. So here's the bottom line of
[00:01:59] our little devotion today. Why doesn't Jesus want us to know when he's coming back?
[00:02:05] Well he always wants us to be prepared and how do we prepare ourselves? We've
[00:02:09] talked a lot about it. We repent of our sin and put our trust in Jesus and live
[00:02:13] a life that honors him and you might be saying well what if I sin? Well we're
[00:02:17] gonna sin right? That's part of who we are but we're trying to live a life
[00:02:21] that glorifies and honors and worships and obeys him right? And so that's how we
[00:02:25] prepare. Repent of our sin, put our trust in Jesus and live a life that honors him
[00:02:29] right? Now what if he did tell us when he was coming back the exact day and the
[00:02:35] exact hour? You know what would happen? Christians by and large would become
[00:02:39] lazy. Hey I know the day and the time so I'm not gonna really worry about
[00:02:43] missions and stuff until it gets closer to the day or some Christians
[00:02:47] would become rebellious. Well I can do whatever I want, live however I want to
[00:02:52] and since I know the day and the hour you know I'll repent of my sin and put my
[00:02:55] trust in Jesus at the last minute right? Well that's why that's part of the
[00:03:00] reason Christ hasn't told us right? He doesn't want us to become lazy. He
[00:03:05] doesn't want us to become rebellious so the bottom line is we don't know when
[00:03:10] Christ is gonna come back. I can tell you a story about William Miller in
[00:03:14] 1843 who is a leader of the Adventist movement and he said looking at some
[00:03:18] pastures in the Bible that Christ was gonna return on March 21st, 1843 they even
[00:03:24] had a countdown. Well obviously he was wrong. He said he miscalculated and he
[00:03:29] said oh it's gonna be March 21st, 1844. Now there's twice as many people who
[00:03:34] are prepared for the day and obviously it didn't come. Why? Because Jesus
[00:03:38] doesn't want us to know the day and the hour. So my friends we don't know when
[00:03:44] it'll be but we do know it is gonna happen right? And when it happens we'll
[00:03:50] lift up our eyes, we'll look at Christ descending on clouds of glory and he
[00:03:54] will take us home to live with him forever until then continue to prepare
[00:03:58] your hearts because he may be coming as we've talked about a lot
[00:04:02] according to Matthew 24 he may be coming at any time right? And I can't wait and I've
[00:04:09] said that many times. I can't wait, I know you feel the same way. So that is
[00:04:13] today's Daily Truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for
