Mount Everest and Mount Calvary

[00:00:08] Hi everybody welcome back to Daily Truths, I got to tell you a funny story about 15

[00:00:12] 20 years ago I was in India and I was with the group of other pastors from various denominations

[00:00:18] kind of learning about an organization called Mission India.

[00:00:22] We flew all over the country.

[00:00:24] The problem was some of the planes that we flew in weren't in the best shape.

[00:00:29] This one particular plane I flew in, I kid you not.

[00:00:32] It had duct tape holding pieces of the plane together on the inside and when they go

[00:00:38] to go to like that.

[00:00:40] So anyway one day I was in a plane I can't remember where we were traveling to maybe Bombay

[00:00:45] or whatever.

[00:00:46] We were in northern India right?

[00:00:50] And the plane was not running very well because as it was running this is the way it sounded.

[00:00:55] So I wasn't sure I was going to make it as a matter of fact I called my wife and I

[00:01:12] said, honey, can you hear me?

[00:01:16] We're not sure I'm going to make it any.

[00:01:20] No I'm just kidding but I was scared.

[00:01:24] Anyway we're flying at 30,000 feet and I look out the window and sure enough about 100

[00:01:32] miles away was this huge mountain that was reaching above the clouds.

[00:01:37] The clouds were like way down below it and I was looking at the peak of this mountain

[00:01:42] and it was about the same altitude that we were flying in.

[00:01:44] It was about 100 miles away and so this stewardess walked by and she had a thick Indian accident

[00:01:52] and I said, what is that mountain over there?

[00:01:55] And she goes, oh that is Mount Everest.

[00:01:59] I was seeing the tallest mountain in the world right?

[00:02:04] And the problem was I was thinking this is the very last sight I'm ever going to see.

[00:02:11] And then I thought don't worry the pilots probably have flown this plane hundreds of times

[00:02:17] he's probably landed it safely hundreds of times.

[00:02:21] I'm just going to look at the mountain and know that the pilot will land the plane just

[00:02:26] fine and the fuel has enough fuel that'll get me there.

[00:02:33] Think about that analogy as you go through life, you fix your eyes on a mountain not Mount

[00:02:39] Everest but Mount Calvary where Jesus died and because He died on that cross your sins

[00:02:45] are forgiven.

[00:02:48] Your slate is completely clean, you're in a relationship with God that the gates of hell

[00:02:53] cannot prevail against because of what happened on that mountain and here's the thing

[00:02:59] until you land safely home with our Heavenly Father and heaven above the Holy Spirit is

[00:03:05] the pilot that's guiding the plane and what's the fuel that will get us there?

[00:03:11] The Word of God and the hearing of the Word of God, reading of the Word of God, listening

[00:03:15] to the Word of God and also receiving the sacrament, right?

[00:03:19] And the fellowship of believers all of that is fuel that keeps our eyes fixed on the

[00:03:25] Mount of Calvary understanding that the Holy Spirit will land us safely on heaven's shore.

[00:03:31] So there you go my encouragement is sometimes it seems like life is kind of like me traveling

[00:03:37] in that plane sometimes the plane is running well sometimes it's not do you want me to

[00:03:42] do that again?

[00:03:43] That's our life but don't worry the pilot is in charge, he'll land us safely, keep

[00:03:55] your eyes fixed on the mountain where Jesus did all the work necessary to save our souls.

[00:04:03] And that is today's daily truth have a great day in Jesus Christ.
