Knowing Scripture and the Power of God | Matthew 22:23-29

[00:00:00] We'll truth, Daily, This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Are there times when we sometimes limit the power of God? We know that God is omniscient, we know that he's omnipresent and he's also omnipotent, which means all powerful.

[00:00:22] But sometimes we kind of dismiss that and forget that. The sad you see in the Scriptures, deny, listen to this, denied the power of God especially the resurrection. And they came to Jesus in verse 23, a Matthew chapter 22 and it says this,

[00:00:38] The same day, the sad you see is came to him who say there is no resurrection. And we talked about this yesterday, how can you be a religious leader and not believe in the resurrection of the dead?

[00:00:49] But that's where they were. Who believe there is no resurrection they asked him a question saying teacher Moses said if a man dies having no children. His brother must marry the widow and raise up children for his brother.

[00:01:02] Now there were seven brothers among them. The first married and died having no children left his wife to his brother. So to the second and third and down the seventh, after them all the women died in the resurrection,

[00:01:17] therefore the seven, whose wife will she be for they all had her. Now listen to this. So basically they're saying we don't believe in the resurrection. We don't believe in the power of God and so if this wife has to marry seven different brothers,

[00:01:32] who should be married to and have? We're going to talk more about this tomorrow that there's no marriage and haven't.

[00:01:37] We're going to talk a lot more about that as I said tomorrow. But this is Jesus' answer. Listen to this. You are wrong because you don't know neither the scripture nor the power of God.

[00:01:49] Did you hear that? They didn't know the scripture that said the God can raise the God can raise the dead and the Old Testament scripture,

[00:01:56] Jesus is what Jesus is referring to. They didn't know the scripture as a God can raise the dead nor did they know the history of God that indeed he's done that before.

[00:02:06] Jesus did that in his own ministry, raising Lazarus from the dead, the widow of Naneson, remember that? Jyrus Daughter, he did all these different things showing and demonstrating that he had the power over death by raising the dead.

[00:02:22] And of course remember this is Holy Week. A lot has happened during Holy Week, right? This is Holy Week and Jesus is having an animated conversation with those who are so opposed to his ministry.

[00:02:33] And this is by the way why things kind of escalated towards the end of the week and they crucified him because he had these confrontations with the Pharisees, Sadie, Jesus, and so again what did the Sadie, Jesus do? They didn't believe in the power of God.

[00:02:47] Nor did they believe in the scripture as it talked about God being able to raise the dead. Now let's apply that to our lives. Here is the bottom line, A. Know the scriptures and that's why you watch D.T. That's why you go to church.

[00:03:02] That's why you're in a Bible study or a small group because you want to know the scripture. So A. Know the scriptures, be a student of the word,

[00:03:10] Be like the Koreans where you testify of the grace of God and you search the scriptures to know the truth of God's word. Be a student of the word. But secondly, and this is what I started out this little devotion with just a few minutes ago.

[00:03:25] Know that God can do anything at any time. There are certain things in your life right now that you're facing that needs the power of God. It might be a relational issue or a financial issue or a physical issue or I have not worked issue.

[00:03:41] I have no idea what it is and I may seem like out of control and there's nothing you can do. Well, probably there is nothing you can do but God can do anything and don't put God in a box.

[00:03:53] That's what the sad you seized in. They basically said, yeah, we don't know the scriptures. Of course they didn't say this. We don't know the scriptures nor do we know the power of God.

[00:04:02] And that's what Jesus was nailing them on. Know the scriptures, know the power of God and know the God can do anything at any time And indeed, if he wants to fix your situation through his power and strength, he will.

[00:04:15] But if he doesn't do that, he'll give you the strength and help and encouragement to endure. So that's the bottom line of today's devotion. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ. And that is today's daily truth.
