[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Back in 1982 my wife and I lived in government

[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: subsidized housing. We didn't really understand at that time that that was welfare. So everybody

[00:00:17] [SPEAKER_00]: in that apartment complex was low income. There was a lady across the street that we

[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_00]: got to be pretty good friends with. She was an elderly lady and she was always talking

[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_00]: about Tammy and Jimmy, Tammy Faye and Jimmy. And I thought for like months it was her kids.

[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And how wonderful they were and how she spent time with Tammy and Jimmy and all this kind

[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: of stuff. And eventually I found out she was talking about Tammy Faye Bakker and Jimmy

[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_00]: her husband and how they were taking her money if she didn't realize that she thought

[00:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: she was quote donating to their ministry. Well these folks were false teachers and

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: were fleecing Americans of millions maybe up to a billion dollars. They eventually

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_00]: went to jail for this because of what they were doing. And basically they were telling

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: folks, among other things they were telling them false teachings, we'll give you this

[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: prayer cloth and if you send in $25 you know this cloth as you bring it into your own

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's been prayed over will heal you of your afflictions and make you rich

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and take away your problems. This kind of charlatan teaching was very prevalent

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: in the 80s. Another guy by the name of Jimmy Swagger did the very same thing.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: They were fleecing the ignorant and unsuspecting. Now we've been talking about

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: false teachers and false Christ as Jesus predicted it not only in his day but in

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: every generation to follow. And he summarizes that whole section by saying

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: this in verse 28, wherever the corpse is there are the vultures will gather.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Now you can imagine we've all seen roadkill right? And what do we see?

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Vultures are hovering around and eventually they're picking at the

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: corpse. Now Jesus is saying the spiritually unsuspecting and ignorant

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: there's vultures around those who will fleece the weak and the unsuspecting

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian of their money and other things if they can take it. And that's

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: basically happens with false teachers many times their primary motivation is

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: to fleece people of their money right? So the Bible talks about things to

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: offset that. This is one of the things the scriptures say regarding that.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Your adversary, this is 1 Peter your adversary the devil prowls around like

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: a roaring lion and he does that through these false teachers.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Priling around like a roaring lion seeking someone whom he may devour. We

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_00]: know that the Bible says that we're to grow in the grace and knowledge of our

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It doesn't say to remain stagnant it

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: doesn't say to decrease in knowledge but to grow in the grace and knowledge

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: growing the grace and knowledge of the scriptures growing the grace and

[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy chapter 3 says that

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: all scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for doctrine for

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: reproof for correction and for training and righteousness so the man or

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: woman of God may be fully equipped for every good work and indeed we put on

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against the schemes of

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: the devil and what is that armor the helmet of salvation the breastplate

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: of righteousness the sword of the spirit the shield of faith the belt of

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: truth and the gospel of peace here's what I'm saying in order to keep the

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: vulture ultimately at Satan through false teachers to picket us to

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: undermine our faith to offset our confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: to offset that we put on the full armor of God we grow in the grace

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we're village and

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: understanding that we face spiritual warfare every day and Satan's number

[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: one goal through false teachers is to make you not trust the confidence

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: that you have in the salvation rooted in Christ and to tear you away from

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the faith and to steal your money those charlatans in the 80s and we

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: have them today by the way those charlatans in the 80s their number

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: one goal and Jimmy and Tammy Faye Baker went to jail because of it

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: their number one goal was to feast the flock fleece the flock to take their

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: money now let me say this I'm not opposed to supporting Christian

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: ministry I mean you probably go to a church and you're supporting

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian ministry but when the Christian ministry runs afoul and

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: contrary to the word of God we need to be aware of that and as you've

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: heard me say in other podcasts how do we become aware of false

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: teachers by understanding what the Bible says and becoming acutely

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: based on the scriptures when we hear something that is not true

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: in congruency with the scriptures so bottom line of this devotion

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: there's vultures out there who will fleece the flock

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: to be aware of that understand that and continue to be faithful to the

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_00]: scriptures and that's how you offset false teaching

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: we understand that so that is oh by the way Jesus said this is going to

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: continue to happen until he comes back this is one of the signs of the second

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: coming of Christ now you've heard me talk in previous podcasts

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: about people that were false teachers we need to be aware of that we've talked

[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: about contemporary false teachers today and yeah so I don't need to talk

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: about that again just be aware continue to grow in the grace and

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: knowledge of Christ grow in the scriptures gain more

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_00]: knowledge so that you can recognize truth from error

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: and that is today's daily truth have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ
