How Will We Get There? | Matthew 24:31

[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. Jesus is talking a lot about end time theology in Matthew chapter 24.

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And he goes on to summarize what's going to happen the day he comes and how the angels are involved.

[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Listen to this, this is Matthew chapter 24 verse 31.

[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call.

[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Now sometimes when we're traveling, we may be going someplace and people may ask us how you're going to get there by train, by bus, by plane, by car.

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll tell them how we're going to get there.

[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So who's going to take us to the throne of Jesus on judgment day when we're raised from the dead or if we're still alive, we're caught up in the clouds.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's going to lead us to the throne of Jesus and to honor, lift up his name and praise him forevermore?

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Whose job is that going to be? Listen.

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call.

[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure what the trumpet is all about, but that's going to usher in the glory of God, going to usher in the glory of Jesus.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And the angels will have a specific job.

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: They will lead us to Jesus' feet.

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: In other words, those who are saved from the four winds.

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: What's that mean?

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we know that wind can come from any direction, north, south, east or west.

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So what this is saying is the angels job will to be going all over the world and to lead God's people before the throne of Christ wherever it is.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: North, south, east, west all around the globe that will be their job.

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it says this regarding that.

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: He will gather the elect from the four winds from one end of the heaven.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Wait a minute.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: From one end of heaven to the other.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: What?

[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's talking about earth, but also it's talking about heaven.

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: What does that mean?

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: That means, listen to this folks.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: That means that Jesus when he descends on those silver clouds of glory, he's going to bring with us our souls, right?

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Our souls will be in heaven with the Lord Jesus, but something is going to be missing.

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Our bodies will be missing.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to bring these souls and I don't know how he's going to do it.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it's going to look like.

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We can speculate all we want.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But from what this says, he's going to go from the heaven, from all over heaven, gather up the souls, bring them down to earth.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Then when his trumpet call is given and he gives the command and we're raised from the dead unless Jesus comes back in our lifetime.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Then we won't be raised from the dead.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll meet him in the air.

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But for those folks that are dead, those souls will be reunited with their body.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And whose job is it going to be?

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: We've said it a couple of times already whose job is it going to be to lead us to the throne of Christ, the angels.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Now until then, it's not the angels job to lead us in the grace of God.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Whose job is it?

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: The Holy Spirit.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: The Holy Spirit's job is not only to bring you to faith, but to feed your faith through word and sacrament.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So when Christ comes back, the angels job is to bring us before the throne of Christ.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Before we die, the Holy Spirit's job is to lead us to the grace of God and help us bask in, rejoice in, and live in that grace.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But also the Holy Spirit empowers us to want to honor, obey, and serve the living Lord Jesus.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So angels will lead us to the throne of Christ on judgment day.

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: The Holy Spirit's job is to lead us in the grace of God until we get to see Christ face to face.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Either way, how are we going to get there by the Holy Spirit's power?

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope that's helpful for you today.
