Exclusive Salvation Pt.2 | Acts 4:12

[00:00:07] Now here's the incredible thing.

[00:00:09] The same spirit that descended on them has not descended on us.

[00:00:22] The same spirit that descended on them has not descended on us.

[00:00:28] No, but sometimes we act like it.

[00:00:33] Sometimes we act like, wow, that was such a powerful manifestation of the spirit.

[00:00:39] Does that really happen today?

[00:00:41] Has the same spirit that descended on them and gave them such power to not only believe in Christ,

[00:00:48] they were eyewitnesses to the resurrection.

[00:00:50] To not only believe in Christ but to powerfully proclaim Christ as that same spirit

[00:00:55] descended on us.

[00:00:56] And the answer is without reservation without hesitation, absolutely yes.

[00:01:01] When did it happen?

[00:01:02] For many of us in our baptisms, but for some of us through the proclamation of the Word of God.

[00:01:09] And the spirit of God, if you're taking notes, does two things in our lives.

[00:01:14] Number one, he gives us power to believe in Jesus.

[00:01:20] Let me say that again.

[00:01:22] The Holy Spirit gives us power to believe in Jesus.

[00:01:26] Jesus said it's so beautifully and Rod said it in the introductory remarks.

[00:01:31] Salvation is found in no one else. Jesus said John 14, I am the way he didn't say I am one of the ways.

[00:01:37] He said, I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except by hearing through all these religions.

[00:01:46] Is that what he said?

[00:01:47] He said, I'm the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except by me.

[00:01:59] This is what we believe and teach and proclaim and live out.

[00:02:05] I love what Martin Luther said in the explanation of the second article, I believe in Jesus Christ,

[00:02:10] through God, begot to the Father from eternity and also true man born of the Virgin Mary.

[00:02:15] And he is my Lord.

[00:02:17] Prehistory deem me a lost and condemn creature purchased in one me from all sin, from death and from the power of the devil,

[00:02:23] not with gold or silver, but with his holy precious blood and his innocent suffering in death.

[00:02:29] Why that I might be his own and live before him in righteousness and purity forever?

[00:02:36] This is who Jesus is.

[00:02:39] He purchased us.

[00:02:41] He redeemed us.

[00:02:43] He sent the Spirit upon us to believe in him.

[00:02:47] And why do we believe in him?

[00:02:50] Let's be because he said that he was going to be crucified and he was.

[00:02:55] Because he said he's going to rise from the dead and he did.

[00:03:00] And now he has sent that Spirit upon us whereby when we say the apostles' creed, three different times we say, I believe.

[00:03:09] I believe.

[00:03:10] I believe.

[00:03:12] Why do we do that?

[00:03:14] Why do we say that?

[00:03:15] Because the same Spirit that descended on them on Pentecostate has come upon us in a powerful way.

[00:03:23] And now we are shining light to this community.

[00:03:27] We have a message to proclaim and a gospel to preach and the message is this.

[00:03:34] Salvation is found in no one else.

[00:03:39] For there is another name given among men by which we must be saved except the saving name of Christ.

[00:03:48] Now sometimes people will say, how do you know that?

[00:03:51] Well these guys had proclaimed that where I witnessed is not just to the death and resurrection.

[00:03:56] But Jesus for the three years of his public ministry did incredible things.

[00:04:01] Right?

[00:04:02] And you know what they are?

[00:04:04] Giving sight to the blind, causing the deaf to hear, causing the mute to speak, causing the cripples to walk, walking on water, raising the dead,

[00:04:16] stilling the storm all these different things.

[00:04:19] Jesus did he do that to show off?

[00:04:24] The answer is no.

[00:04:25] He did that to validate and authenticate that he is who he claimed to be.

[00:04:37] And if he performed all those miracles and predicted he was going to be crucified.

[00:04:42] And predicted he was going to be raised and he did it, that settles it for me.

[00:04:48] And it settles it for us so that the spirit of God is come into our life whereby we say, I believe.

[00:04:56] If you believe in Jesus Christ as Lord Redeemer, Savior and King, a miracle has taken place.

[00:05:03] The spirit of God has broken down your stubborn resisting will, giving you the eyes of faith, opened up to proclaim and see who Jesus is and why he came.

[00:05:13] So the Holy Spirit has come upon our life so that we can believe in Jesus.

[00:05:18] But the Holy Spirit has also come upon our life so that we can proclaim as Rod did that muslim.

[00:05:26] So that we can proclaim the name of Jesus.

[00:05:32] Are you doing that?

[00:05:34] When all the spirit opens the door, do you walk through it and say I'm going to tell you about my Savior.

[00:05:39] I got to tell you this is amazing and it kind of put me to shape.

[00:05:42] I didn't even tell my wife this.

[00:05:44] I went to get her yesterday and the guy in the chair next to me.

[00:05:49] I didn't see him but I could hear him and he was pretty boisterous.

[00:05:52] And he was telling this, the lady that was cutting his hair about Jesus.

[00:05:59] It was so cool.

[00:06:01] And I don't think she necessarily wanted him to, but he did it just the same.

[00:06:07] And he talked about the peace that you have in Christ and you sure it's a eternal life that you have in Christ.

[00:06:13] And the guiding force and power and influence of Jesus Christ that gets us through the difficult times of life.

[00:06:19] I wanted to stand up and applaud but I would have had my head cut.

[00:06:22] You know what I'm saying?

[00:06:23] I mean it was amazing.

[00:06:25] I said this guy gets it.

[00:06:28] And I thought his voice sounded like he was like 60 but when he got out of the chair and I got out of the chair

[00:06:36] of the same place about 35 and he was a teacher at a middle school in Longmont

[00:06:42] and I thought to myself, I bet the kids love this guy.

[00:06:45] The spirit of God had descended on him.

[00:06:51] The spirit of God has descended on us to proclaim what Jesus means to us in a very personal, powerful and prevalent way.

[00:06:58] I got to tell you, so my wife buys my clothes and I am so cheap.

[00:07:05] I never buy my own clothes.

[00:07:08] She is the only one that ever buys me clothes.

[00:07:10] So she gets me these really nice shorts that I wore was it yesterday?

[00:07:15] Yesterday that I wore yesterday and I went to a bunch of stores and stuff and I had these shorts on and stuff.

[00:07:19] And when I got home she said, Dave, did you have this on your shorts all the time?

[00:07:27] You know what it was?

[00:07:29] The size of my pants 36 36 36 36 36 36 36 36 36

[00:07:33] You know is declaring who I am right.

[00:07:37] Have you ever done that?

[00:07:39] Have you ever been so excited to wear pants that you put them on and you don't take all the tags off?

[00:07:44] So everybody knew 36 36 36 36.

[00:07:48] Really it's 38 but she's hopeful she's hopeful okay.

[00:07:52] So yes, I'm wearing these shorts proclaiming who I am.

[00:07:56] You know what proclaims who we are the cross of Jesus right?

[00:08:00] And I believe teach and confess what the word of God teaches and we believe and confess that salvation is exclusive.

[00:08:18] There's not many different paths to have and even though half the people in the Missouri Senate believe there are.

[00:08:26] And my number one fundamental goal as your pastor here at Mount Hope is to make sure that every one of us get it straight.

[00:08:35] That if I were to ask you, if you were to die tonight and stand before the gates of heaven and God would ask you why should I allow you and am I heaven what would you say?

[00:08:43] That not one of you would say well I'm a good person.

[00:08:46] It's like many times when I've been over the bedside of someone who is ready to pass on are you ready to go meet the Lord?

[00:08:53] Are you ready to go to heaven? Well I hope so I hope I've been good enough.

[00:08:56] I'm going what are you kidding me?

[00:09:01] How many times have you heard me say salvation is found in Jesus alone?

[00:09:07] Now I'll tell you why so many people think this and I might have said this in some previous sermon, but I'm going to say it again.

[00:09:14] If you're going to get anything worth anything in life you have to earn it.

[00:09:20] If you want a good marriage you have to say it.

[00:09:24] If you want a good marriage you have to earn it.

[00:09:27] If you want to get good grades at school you have to.

[00:09:29] If you want to get the paycheck at work you have to.

[00:09:32] If you want to get a raise at work you have to.

[00:09:35] If you want to have good kids you have to.

[00:09:37] All of this and so we take that pull yourself up by the bootstraps mentality and apply it to religion.

[00:09:46] And here's the amazing thing.

[00:09:48] Salvation is a free gift.

[00:09:51] God wraps up eternal life and forgiveness is sin through his son Jesus Christ and he says take it.

[00:09:59] And what do we say?

[00:10:01] I will.

[00:10:03] That sounds good.

[00:10:06] But what do I have to do?

[00:10:08] There's no free lunches and God is saying and response to that yes there is.

[00:10:12] The greatest gift in life is free.

[00:10:14] Did you hear that the greatest gift in life is free?

[00:10:22] And this is what we tell people.
