A Phone Call You'll Never Get | Matthew 24:43-44

[00:01:11] Well, listen to what Jesus says in Matthew 24 verses 43 and 44.

[00:01:17] But know this, that if the Master of the house had known what part of the night the thief was coming,

[00:01:22] he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into, right?

[00:01:28] If he would have known a thief was going to come and when he was going to come,

[00:01:31] he'd be ready and nothing would be stolen. And then Jesus says this in verse 44 here is the application.

[00:01:37] Therefore you must also be ready for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

[00:01:44] How many times when horrific things have happened on planet Earth did people think Jesus is coming?

[00:01:51] It's just around the corner. After the sock market crash in 1929,

[00:01:56] people thought Jesus is coming very soon. After the attack of Pearl Harbor in 1941, December 7th,

[00:02:03] people thought Jesus is coming very soon. During World War II, people thought Jesus is coming very soon.

[00:02:08] As a matter of fact, I've read some Lutheran stuff whereby many people thought it's just around the corner.

[00:02:15] 9-11, September 11th, 2001. After that happened the falling of the Twin Towers,

[00:02:21] many people thought Jesus coming is just around the corner. As a matter of fact, so many people thought that

[00:02:26] church attendance went up by almost 50% in most churches. Why? Because people were anticipating that indeed

[00:02:33] the Son of God would be coming very, very soon. Now listen to this folks. Jesus is not going to send us an email

[00:02:40] or a text or gives a phone call and say, oh, by the way, I'm going to be coming in just a day or two.

[00:02:46] Get your hearts ready. Get your house prepared. Everything is going to be good,

[00:02:49] but I'm going to be returning just in a couple days, so just get ready. He's not going to do that.

[00:02:54] A thief doesn't let you know when he's going to attack your house. Neither does Jesus let us know

[00:02:58] when he's going to be coming. It's going to be sudden. It's going to be instantaneous.

[00:03:03] It's going to be at a time when we least expect it. We've talked about this business as usual.

[00:03:09] People marrying, giving and marriage, all that kind of stuff, going to work, raising their kids,

[00:03:13] all these things. When people are least expecting the second coming of Jesus, boom, then it will happen.

[00:03:20] Jesus said this, therefore you must always be ready for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

[00:03:27] So how do we get ready? And we've talked about this many times simply by repentance and faith in Jesus

[00:03:32] and living for him. Simply put, repentance and faith in Jesus who lived and died and rose again for you

[00:03:40] and living for him from day to day. And we talked about this yesterday if you're engaged in sin when he comes back,

[00:03:47] you're under the state of grace. Can you imagine if people said, well I better not be sinning when Christ comes back

[00:03:55] because I'm not safe? Is your salvation based on your works or based on what Christ has done for you?

[00:04:01] It's the latter, right? So repent, put your trust in Jesus, live for him and then you are ready.

[00:04:10] And he's not going to give us any warning of phone call, a text and email saying, oh I'll be by about 11 o'clock tonight.

[00:04:17] No, just be ready. He may be coming very, very soon. And are you saying, well Pastor Dave, you just said you can't predict.

[00:04:26] You're right. Let's always be ready. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ and that is today's Daily Truth.
