[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. It's one o'clock on Good Friday morning. Jesus is standing before the Sanhedrin, the religious leaders of the day. He's proclaimed himself under oath to be the Messiah. Caiaphas rips his coat asunder, indicating that Jesus is blasphemed. He asks the religious leaders, does he deserve death? And they say, yes, he does.

[00:00:30] And then we pick up verse 67. Then they spit in his face and struck him, and some slapped him saying, prophesy to us, you Christ, who is it that struck you? So false witnesses had come forward. A lack of evidence really was given. There was no evidence that Jesus had done anything wrong. They tried to get Jesus to incriminate himself, but remember he remained silent according to the scriptures in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.

[00:01:00] Now they resorted to the worst of all. They resorted to violence. They insulted him in the worst way by spitting in his face. Then they blindfolded him and struck him with their fists in their hands saying, prophesy Christ. This was a litmus test according to the book of Isaiah chapter 11, which indicated if a Messiah was truly present, if the one true Messiah was truly present, he'd be able to know who it was that had struck him when he was blindfolded.

[00:01:30] And so they said, if you're the Christ and Jesus is blindfolded. Hey, you have to know it by knowing our name and knowing who we are. But Jesus again remains silent. And of course, the Bible tells us, according to Isaiah 52, that he was beaten so badly, you could hardly recognize him as a human being.

[00:01:51] If we could go back in time to that day, but not knowing what we know now, not having 2020 vision about what the significance of it all was.

[00:02:02] If we could go back in time. If we could say to Jesus, Jesus, do something. Why are you doing this? Why don't you defend yourself? Why are you persevering through this? Why are you withstanding this beating this punishment? Why?

[00:02:17] Why? And Jesus could say to us, why? And Jesus could say to us, it's because of you. It's because of your sin. Sin needs to be dealt with. It needs to be paid for. And I need to take it away. And that's what I will do.

[00:02:34] I will go to the cross to bear your sin, to pay the penalty for the wrongs and to take it away. And this is why Jesus withstood all of that. My friend, I want to tell you that the number one most important entity in the entire scripture is the gospel of Jesus.

[00:02:56] Jesus. We are poor, miserable sinners, unable to save ourselves, unable to put ourselves right with God, unable to remove that barrier of sin and be forgiven. We can't do it. But Jesus Christ went to the cross and pay the full penalty for our wrongs. And because he did that, we know we stand before God, holy, clean, pure, righteous and sinless.

[00:03:25] Yeah, we know why Christ didn't say anything. We know why he bore all that punishment, why he allowed people to spit in his face, the religious lead. And you know, he could have been saying, you know what? I made you. I created you. I had you in mind before you were ever born. And I knew you'd end up doing this, putting me to shame, trying to execute me, trying to make me look small. But I did it all for the people I died for.

[00:03:52] And he could have said to those people who were doing all that. I'm dying for you. I'm paying for this sin. You're committing against me right now. And he did die for them. He did die for their sins. He did die for the fact that they were ultimately responsible for the crucifixion of Christ.

[00:04:09] But were they? No, it's us. We're the ones who nailed Christ to the cross with our sin, with our transgressions, with our misunderstanding of how we're to be, with our misrepresentation of what it means to be a Christian, with our cursing tongue and our lying lips and eyes that look at things that shouldn't we be looked at?

[00:04:31] I'm telling you, folks, it's because of us that Christ went to the cross.

[00:04:37] But as I've said before, it's his mercy and incredible grace and deep abiding love that allowed him to stay on there for six hours, bearing our sin and paying the price for our wrongs.

[00:04:50] The bottom line of daily truths is to communicate this basic truth that you and I are sinful and need a savior and Jesus is it.

[00:05:04] So thanks be to God. Christ did what he did so we can have what we have.

[00:05:10] And what do we have? Through repentance and faith in him.

[00:05:13] We have a relationship with God. We're headed to the pearly gates, as some say.

[00:05:19] We're headed to heaven to be with our savior in a place where all the problems of this world will fade away.

[00:05:26] What an incredible savior. What amazing grace. What astounding love.

[00:05:32] What deep and abiding favor that God has given us through his son.

[00:05:38] And that is today's daily truth. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.
