The Essence of the Palm Sunday Confession | Matthew 21:9

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily, This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman

[00:00:30] Let's take that apart.

[00:00:40] What does the word Hosanna mean?

[00:00:42] It means Lord, save us now.

[00:00:44] What does the term Son of David mean?

[00:00:46] It means Jesus of Nazareth, you are the promised Messiah.

[00:00:51] So Hosanna, Son of David, blessed.

[00:00:54] The word blessed means one who is bringing gifts.

[00:00:57] Hosanna, Son of David, blessed is he, namely Jesus who's bringing gifts.

[00:01:02] Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

[00:01:05] You are sent by the name of God the Father to save us.

[00:01:09] Okay, so that's what it means.

[00:01:11] Hail Hosanna, Lord, save us now.

[00:01:15] Son of David, you're the Messiah.

[00:01:17] Blessed, you're bringing gifts.

[00:01:19] As he who comes in the name of the Lord, God is sending you.

[00:01:22] Okay, so what did they expect Jesus to do?

[00:01:25] They're saying he's a Messiah and we want him to do stuff.

[00:01:29] We want him to save us now.

[00:01:32] But how was he to do that?

[00:01:34] Basically the method was to crunch out the Roman government

[00:01:38] and free the people from the tyranny of that government.

[00:01:41] That's what they expected Jesus to do.

[00:01:44] Save us now, Lord.

[00:01:46] Save us from the tyranny of this horrible government.

[00:01:49] Save us from Nero.

[00:01:51] We can't stand these people.

[00:01:53] We can't stand this government.

[00:01:55] They give us taxes that are too high.

[00:01:57] Lord, save us.

[00:01:59] Save us now.

[00:02:01] But Jesus did save them, but not in the method that they wanted.

[00:02:05] When did he save them?

[00:02:07] Five days later.

[00:02:09] And how did he do it?

[00:02:11] Through his death on the cross and then his imminent resurrection.

[00:02:14] Saving them from what?

[00:02:16] Sin and hell and Satan and death.

[00:02:20] Now I want you to think about this.

[00:02:22] How many times have we sinned where we say,

[00:02:25] Lord, save us now and he does because he died for us?

[00:02:29] How many times does Satan have his way in tempting us

[00:02:32] and accusing us of wrongs and yet we're saved

[00:02:35] from his accusations through the death of Jesus on the cross?

[00:02:39] How many times do we think, oh my goodness,

[00:02:41] because of my sin, I'm worthy of nothing

[00:02:44] but total separation from God, life and hell.

[00:02:47] But Jesus saves us from that by dying in our place on the cross.

[00:02:51] And how many times are we frightened of the prospect of death?

[00:02:54] But Jesus saves us from that because he conquered death

[00:02:58] through his incredible, magnificent resurrection.

[00:03:00] So you see, we say, Lord, save us now and he does.

[00:03:05] Why?

[00:03:06] Because he loves us.

[00:03:08] So think about that, my friend.

[00:03:10] Hail, Lozanna.

[00:03:11] Lord, save us now and he does.

[00:03:14] Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

[00:03:16] The Lord has sent you, your bearing gifts,

[00:03:18] and you're the promised Messiah.

[00:03:20] This is what we say about Palm Sunday.

[00:03:23] So Jesus didn't save them from the tyranny of the Roman government,

[00:03:27] but he does save us from the tyranny of sin, hell, Satan

[00:03:31] and the fear of death itself.

[00:03:34] Thanks be to God for what God has done for us through his son.

[00:03:38] So that's what the term, Hail, Lozanna,

[00:03:41] Son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

[00:03:45] That's what it meant for them then.

[00:03:47] Of course, he didn't do it the way they wanted him to.

[00:03:49] What it means for us is we've been saved,

[00:03:52] rescued and delivered through Jesus Christ,

[00:03:55] the Son of David, the promised Messiah.

[00:03:58] Thanks be to God for the victory that we have

[00:04:02] through faith in what he's done.

[00:04:04] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:04:07] Now you know a little bit more about what that term meant for them,

[00:04:10] what they thought it meant for them,

[00:04:12] what it means for us.

[00:04:14] Hail, Lozanna, Son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

[00:04:19] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ,

[00:04:22] and that is today's Daily Truth.

[00:04:42] Come back tomorrow for your next Daily Truth.
