Just Go With It! | Matthew 26:42

Matthew 26:42 - When Jesus asked if there was a different way to win salvation, He realized that He would have to accept the will of the Father and just go with it. In times of unanswered prayer, we need to have the same attitude.

[00:00:00] Real Truth Daily. This is Daily Truths with Dave Ahlman.

[00:00:07] Hi everybody, welcome back to Daily Truths. What do you do when God doesn't answer your prayers the way you want him to? Do you become disillusioned, angry, upset, distant, isolated, withdrawn? You get angry at God, you quit going to church? What do you do?

[00:00:28] What did Jesus do in the Garden of Gethsemane when he asked God to do something? And what exactly did he ask God to do? Well, listen to this. This is verse 42 of Matthew 26. Again, Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane. He's with his disciples. He's asked them to stay awake and watch and pray. He's told them, don't fall into temptation. Of course, they fell asleep. They did fall into temptation. All of that. We've talked about that in the past.

[00:00:53] Then a second time, he comes to the Father and says this in verse 42,

[00:00:58] My Father, if this cannot pass until I drink it, unless I drink it, your will be done.

[00:01:04] What was he saying there? If I have to go to the cross, if I have to shed blood, if I have to experience your wrath, if I'm going to go through total separation from you,

[00:01:15] if I have to bear the world's sins and go through the humiliation, mocking and rejection of people around me,

[00:01:22] if I have to do that, if that's your will for my life, I'm going to go with it.

[00:01:29] I'm going to go with it. Your will be done, not mine.

[00:01:35] Jesus is basically saying, you're the one who's dictating the roadmap for my life.

[00:01:40] And if this is part of your will for my life, I trust it and I'm going to go with it.

[00:01:47] My friends, did you hear that? I trust it and I'm going to go with it.

[00:01:52] So when God doesn't answer your prayers the way you want him to, here's what I can tell you.

[00:01:59] Just trust him and go with it.

[00:02:02] He's going to provide in the midst of that, his power to cope with whatever adversity is going to come your way.

[00:02:08] He's going to provide you his grace to help you understand that in the midst of your suffering, he is strong.

[00:02:15] He's going to provide for you great blessings, enabling you to look at what you have instead of what you don't have.

[00:02:21] And think about that other statement I said, that he's going to give you his grace in the midst of your suffering.

[00:02:27] Remember Paul in 2 Corinthians chapter 12 had this thorn in the flesh, some messenger of Satan, as he called it, some physical infirmity.

[00:02:36] And he asked on three separate occasions that God would take it away.

[00:02:39] And do you know what God's answer was?

[00:02:41] No.

[00:02:43] My grace is sufficient for you.

[00:02:45] Let me stop right there by saying my unconditional love that I've given you, Paul, through my son, Jesus Christ, is more than enough.

[00:02:54] My grace is sufficient for you and my power is made perfect in the midst of your weakness.

[00:03:00] In other words, while you're weak, my strength will flow through you to cope with this adversity and to carry on.

[00:03:06] My friends, I can say the very same thing for you today.

[00:03:11] When God doesn't come through the way you want him to come through, when he doesn't answer your prayers specifically the way you want them answered, listen to this.

[00:03:20] His grace, his incredible love and mercy is all you need and his strength to carry on and the blessings that he's given you.

[00:03:30] This is the thing that happens in my life and all our lives, I believe, when God doesn't come through the way we want him to.

[00:03:35] Right?

[00:03:36] We start to get angry and upset and we start to think, I really need this and why didn't you do this?

[00:03:41] And all the while, God is directing our attention on what he's already given.

[00:03:47] And he's saying, focus on that.

[00:03:49] Focus on the relational, financial, physical, and yes, spiritual blessings I've given you through my son.

[00:03:57] Focus on that and let me worry about the rest.

[00:04:02] Oof.

[00:04:02] Is that great advice from our heavenly father?

[00:04:05] Or what?

[00:04:07] So here's the thing.

[00:04:08] Remember that in the midst of unanswered prayers, when I say unanswered prayers, I know God answers every prayer.

[00:04:14] But in the midst of the maybes and the no's of your prayer requests to God, think of this.

[00:04:20] His strength, his blessing, and his grace will see you through.

[00:04:27] If it was good enough for Jesus, if it was good enough for St. Paul, it's surely good enough for us.

[00:04:34] And that is today's daily truth.

[00:04:36] Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:04:40] And trust him every moment of every day.

[00:04:45] Have a great day in Christ.
